BF-110 G-4

OK, ok,ok.....thought I was going to have a night off to piddle around and vacuum up the shavings from the last project, and didn't even get as far as cleaning off my cutting pad before taping sumthin up! :P Heh heh, Guess I better take pics before I actually start gluing things together. The Dragon BF-110 kit was looking at me like a bull does at a matador. It slapped me in the face with a gaunlet, and 'demanded satisfaction'. Who ho, the duel is on and I'm gonna smite this kit 'hip and thigh' Old Testament style! :BANGHEAD2:

Now I've already done a G-2 conversion on the Revell kit back in the 'Wings of the Luftwaffe' GB, so I can say I've had a bit of practice at this. Always wanted to do a night fighter version cause the camo schemes are so cool, but I waited for the Dragon kit to come out to have a better basis to start with. I still have some tid-bits from that previous build that I never used, and the rest I can invent. This kit is gorgeous, and has already almost fallen together with just a few bits of tape.....check it out! :wow:

Ooooooh yes, this will do nicely for a start. Those early 20mm cannons that come in the belly tray will be my shrage-Musik upward firing cannon in the rear cockpit. I've got a fistful of resin corrected spinners, and all those spare props off the Hasegawa ME-109's are going to come in handy here. I'm going to have a crew of 3 Masterdetails German pilots, blah blah. Lots more mods than I'll mention now, just as I get to them. Still too early in the battle to be giving specifics. :BANGHEAD2:

Alright, now the 'Gustav' version has different rims and larger tires than the earlier marks. Here we go!

Are those freshly-bought wheels Russ? In other words, are they still available? I could do with a set for my old Revell bird.

I've had these PE sets for awhile now, knowing they'd come in handy. Interior and exterior. This gives me all those cool little details like the cooling jackets and sights for the MG81's and the funky 'bulls-eye' gunsight grills that go in front of the flame dampeners. Also, the cockpit is a bit different on the 'G' and this gives me a new IP and armor plate for the sides of the fuse and such. Very handy. ^_^ I've got plenty of extra drop tanks, and the kit has the mountings for them already on the sprues for the 'D' version. I'll be vacuforming a new rear canopy, enlarging the rudders, and just generally running amok fixing things up as I run across them. The engine nacelles I've already taken the measure of and done before, and will be a big yawn for me. New bulged 30mm nose will be PUTTY! Whoohoo! Gotta scram, so I'll post more pics as things progress. You watch and see, now that I've started this.....Dragon will be surprise releasing this version outta the blue! Mangy dog that I am,..... I can smell their fear. Later, Russ

Hello Peter! :) Naw buddy, I'm going to be bouncing around between the two to keep from burning out on either. Just getting my parts together for this build and getting my foot in the door by posting some pics of the unstarted kit. I'm working on a special treat for the SR-71 thread that won't be done until tonight when I restart it. I'm enlarging some plans for templates for the engine nacelle and rudder mods for this today and just working behind the scenes on it in general.

Howdy Kevin! ;) I had to dust the cobwebs and spray the bugs outta the back-corner of my brain to remember where I got those wheels as it was a year-1/2 ago. I acquired them at 'rollmodels dot com', and checked for availability. Check under 'Airwaves' for products, and they're $7.50 US in both the later E/F/G style and earlier treaded 'C' version. HTH's!

Hey Russ

To paraphrase the Backstreet Boys "Oh My God he's back again !"..... Gonna be a treat watching this build, but I must echo earlier remaks about the Blackbird... can't wait to see that puppy again !

Cheers

Why don't you just make 10 one louder?

Can't wait to see this thing come together. Also looking forward to all that pe!

Well, cuz that still wouldn't be 11. That's only HALF the PE too, the other side of the packages has a full fret also! I'm gonna do sumthin I usually shrug off; and actually add some detail to a model. (shhhhhh, don't tell anybody....it'll damage my reputation for ineptness and laziness. :) )

Yep Rick, I was noticing that a lot of these were based in the Netherlands. I'm looking for an ace in a unit that that was based somewhere close to where you live, got any ideas or info? Thanks for the welcome back guys, I'm waiting for the timing to be right before I re-start the SR-71. That old thing isn't going anywhere, and I'm a wee bit too busy currently to devote the time to engineering stuff for it right now. Just getting back from vacation and the holidays has me swamped.

This build on the other hand is looking very 'yippeee-skippee', and everything I touch on it is falling together. Sometimes ya just gotta go with the flow instead of fighting the current, eh?! Only had time to gather the last parts I've been looking for, and lay the kit pieces over some plans I've enlarged to get a general idea of what I've got and a plan of action. Incredibly enough, I think this is going to be the easiest conversion I've ever done!!! The kit pieces aren't just close to the plans; they're exact. Let's start with the front. I'll be using Eagle Editions resin spinners, but I haven't shaved them off their pour stubs yet....so I'll use Hasegawa 109 spinners for mocking things up. Diameters at the spinner base are identical as they're replacement parts. They match the plans exactly, as do the 109 G-6 props I'll be using. These are extras off the Hasegawa kits. Got a bit of a comparison with the kit props/spinner just to show how much wider they are.

I have resin replacement oil coolers, but it will actually be easier to scratch these shapes than adapt these to the curvature of the nacelle undersides. Got some spare drop tanks lined up, and the belly pan on to see what will have to be changed. Again, everything lines up exactly.

Landing gear door outlines, panel lines, radiators, EVERYTHING lines up perfectly. It's like they made the kit off these plans. I've moved the belly pan off to the side so ya'll can see the different shell chute openings (and there's actually a gas escape reverse scoop too) and how easy this will be to mod. I can do this without losing any of the kit detail.

Moving on to the fuselage. No issues, again....everything matches exactly. Nose contours(not shown), outlines, panel lines, canopy(not shown but checked).....everything. This is the biggest cake-walk conversion I'll ever do. Kinda hard to see cuz they moved, but the exhausts line up perfectly. I'll be using the cut down kit stuff to adapt to the flame dampeners. (one of the few things I'll have to scratch)
