CANicoll
Ok, I've been all over the Fine Scale Modeler forums and there are at least two different 'I know because I work for the guys painting the planes' answers - and the both reference different colors and someone else offering up their views: One set seems to be Light/Dark USAF Ghost Gray - not sure of the 'third' gray. The other set is Light/Dark Gull Grey - third grey a mystery Light Gray/Dark Gray. So I figure the smart folks here probably have the answer. So what colors are the Raptors painted in? I'm doing a Langley, Va Raptor. Thanks! Chris F`s are my favs
F`s are my favs
Hi, CANicoll, For the F-23 i plan to use the exact same procedure as i would paint a Raptor: metalizers underneath and different transparent coats of gray paint above. A lot more transparent paint coats than in my lastly finished Bunker Buster, and different areas with different thickness of the coats as well. Tony T
I'm not sure the YF-22 'iron birds' had anything to do with the development of operational metallic-looking polymer coatings seen on production Raptors. I'm assuming you're referring to the Testors kit and what greys to use. Go with their colour call as a starting point. I like this idea, thanks, since I have read of a lot of posts that say that the radar absorbent coatings change the color of the paint underneath, and also the colors look different when viewed from different angles. I've also thought about painting the bird in SEA camo scheme. Might do the gray first time around, and then maybe do SEA next time, or vis a versa.... Tony Tony, No, its the Academy kit (Pretty good one too) and while they call out colors, they don't reference the fuselage colors directly in the instructions.
