In that picture, it looks like that Taube is 2-3,000 feet up. I'm surprised that old clunker would make it that high...

Those are European sized roads - lanes, really - and fields.

He's 200 feet off the ground.

I'd guess the artwork is a mock-up by an enthusiastic WNW fan.

Wiki quotes the Taube ceiling at 6600ft

Wiki also stated when Leslie Nielsen passed away that he "lost a brief but final battle with his arch-nemesis Skeletor," (seriously...) so I'll choose to take that with a grain of salt  :innocent:

Maybe they died it under an observation balloon to get extra lift, similar to the BE.2c-powered airships

I did some research. I'm not convinced this is correct, but here goes:

The book "International Warbirds: An Illustrated Guide to World Military Aircraft 1914-2000" states:

"in July 1914 a Taube broke the world altitude record by reaching 21,600 feet."

Instead of a passenger, the 98 pound pilot carried additional helium filled balloons

in the spare seat ( and in the rest of the fuselage where they would fit ) ....
