jenshb
OK, this predates Maverick and Goose by a few years. The original aircraft was lost in 1984, and the decals portray the aircraft as it was in 1977. The intention is to build "white 40" in three shades of blue from the Hasegawa kit I dug out of the loft. It has been started, but not by much: The wings are glued to the fuselage, the nose panels for the gun stuck in place, some Milliput to cover ejector pin marks, so less than 25% I'd say. Planning to use the Black Box cockpit and a pilot and mount it in flight, trying to wax some Tomcat crew's tail. The mouldings are sharp and the canopy very clear, so the resin cockpit will be an improvement here. Dragon
The F-5E Adversaries are some of my favorite, so I'll be following your build. If time allows, I'd like to do the White 43 scheme off that sheet. Mike
jenshb
Thank you for your interest gents. The Black Box cockpit provides both the early (small) and later (large and boxy) headrest. Which would be appropriate for a 1977 vintage adversary? Jens
LSP_Kevin
Hmmm..."Not allowed to use that image extension on this community" . photos.google.com not allowed? I get the same message with imgur when I try to use the Image button in the post, yet the photo is accessible when clicking on the link? https://imgur.com/a/8egeQ Hi Jens, The link you posted points to a web page that contains the image, rather than the image itself. And when I clicked on the link to view the image, I could see no way to grab the direct link. We've got a number of members who use Imgur now, so perhaps one of them will come along with some instructions on how it works. Kev

Out2gtcha
Nice choice! Been looking out for a new tool T-38 for a long time now. Following here should be fun. Model on!
jenshb
Jens...NOICE choice. No idea who Goose and Maverick are though! Whatever it is ... this is going to be good thread /build to follow. You've never seen the movie "Top Gun"? Need to finish off an Airfix Mustang first before I can make much progress on this one. jenshb
Now then, before this gets totally off the rails; I decided to upload an avatar in keeping with the spirit of the group build and perhaps also the subect:) BTW, I found a photo of my subject in the Osprey series of books form the 80s on Aggressor Aircraft. That shows the headrest of this aircraft at the time was the original type. Been battling with the Black Box cockpit in between decalling the Mustang, but not much to show for it yet. Out2gtcha
I think this thread may have given KHM the push it needed as I see the box art for their new F-5 just this morning. I also really like the look of White 40, if its the one Im thinking of........... Looking forward to more progress!

jenshb
I've been sidetracked for a while, but have got back to doing some more work on this. As I want it in flight and support it through the rather simple exhausts, I have added some bracing inside the fuselage that serves as support for the brass rods. This fuselage shouldn't flex... The Black Box cockpit needs a fair degree of fettling to make the pieces fit. At first, the rear bulkhead was several millimetres behind the kit panel line that marks the location of that bulkhead, and as can be seen, there are gaps. The sidewall panels weren't quite the same shape and pushed the cockpit tub too low. The instrument panel was made up from four pieces which made assemby more awkward than it needs to. Detail is great, but it does make me wonder if the master pattern was even test fitted to the kit... The BB cockpit features a radar display, but I don't think the Navy Aggressors had a radar, so what woud be in it's place?
