Mr. Paint / MRP Paints?

I have purchased quite a number of the new MRP acrylic  lacquer paints, and absolutely LOVE them. However, looking around at Hobby-World USA, and doing a search, there are NO searches for MRP, only Mr Paint.

I realize that Mr. Paint makes the MRP line but my question is this:

Is the Mr Paint line of paints the exact same thing as the MRP paint line only labeled differently?

I have heard that "MRP" is the trademark used for the USA while the "Mr.Paint" is the trademark for the Europe. Inquiring minds would like to know..........

I just got a shipment of MRP paint from Hobby World USA. They are indeed the Mr Paint from Slovakia. Seems that they changed their name to MRP for some reason. And yes, the label does indeed say "MRP" and has the website as www.mrpaint.sk

I just finished using them on a Special Hobby Yak-3 and they are fantastic paints. I am a confirmed Mr Color paint user and these (MRP) are pretty similar in usage (both are acrylic lacquers), airbrush pretty much the same (beautifully), and are slightly less "stinky" than Mr Color. If not for the cost of MRP (about 400% more), I would be switching over to them exclusively. I'll still use MR Color for the bulk of my painting chores (due to price), but MRP has some colors (like Soviet) that are not available in the Mr Color range.

Thanks guys. That is what I seemed to be reading, but was not sure if the formula was different, there was just a name change, or if it was branding by country.

Actually, they're inks, not paint.

Maybe that's why they changed the name.

From reading up on them that is not what I gathered. They indicate the particulate is acrylic while the medium is a lacquer carrier.   Ive never heard anyone call or mention inks associated with them.

Hi Brian

For starters: nice new name/photo ... just miss the old one already (I remember when you change to it when building your Rufe)  as I'm so use to it. I did take a quick look at the site and it looks awesome - will be checking it out further the next few days.

I've been using MRP/Mr Paint for close to a year now and they are absolutely the best paints I have ever shot! If there is one drawback: availability. I buy all mine from Matt at Hobby-World and the service is fantastic but you need to keep checking as the more popular colors come in and out of stock quickly. I've been building up a supply, as it is money in the bank. I'm only guessing but the name MRP is really MR P(aint); it does make sense though.

I painted my Mossie with MRP paints and right now I've been working on the ZM F4J, learning black basing and everything ounce of paint (except the primer) is MRP.

I use both a good respirator and my spray booth and just would ever consider going bac to any other paint as long as MRP has the colors.

Thanks Peter!  Yes, I miss Eddie too.  The new avatar is the new logo I created for my commission business:

I miss Eddie too, and may bring him back yet.

As to the paint, I 100% agree with you, they do indeed shoot FANTASTIC.    The price at $7.00 a bottle is a bit steep, but like you, Im trying to build a stock of it, so I can can most of what I need on hand.

Glad to see I can buy "Mr Paint" paint and know its the same thing as MRP.

Hopefully if it IS just new name/branding change, that from this point on ALL of their bottles will be in teh MRP bottle to save confusion on the part of idiots like myself.

I've just had a look on the BNA website (who have finally started stocking Mr. Paint recently, and they show the new label design under either designation, so I think you can rest assured that it's the same stuff. My guess is that they concluded the Mr. Paint moniker was being too easily confused with Mr. Color.

That actually makes a lot of sense, as Ive seen on least two different web sites, when you click on Mr Paint there is some blurb about not being confused with the gunze sangyo product.

The label on mine says "Acrylic Lacquer Paint For Airbrush".

Indeed. Every review or video I've seen about MRP says it is an acrylic paint medium with a lacquer based carrier.

I always buy my MRP's from Mr. Paint themselves, and the couple of last orders where the bottles with the new logo on it. So in my opinion there the same like the old ones.

Actually, they're inks, not paint.

Indeed, i heared that also but i rather call them paint's instead of ink's. Still they resemble much to ink's so i think the truth will be lying in the middle.

Also, to me it's just cellulose solvent based paint, taken in mind that there is acrylic based substance into it, still, they smell like solvents so i treat them like solvents.

For the rest, this is the best paint i ever used, and i'm hooked to them.

Me too Danny!  Im hooked, and like a lot of others, if the MRP paints were even remotely near the same cost as MM stuff, Id switch over to MRP exclusively for AB painting.

Im still in the market for a good brush paint, if MMs line goes away; which im still up in the air over, as different sources say different things about their enamel line going away.

I am also a fully signed up member of the MRP (Mr Paint) fan club.

I see the mention of cost and one person said it was 400% more expensive than Mr Colour.

I do not know the US cost but in the UK a 10ml Mr Colour pot is £2 from my usual on-line store.

The 30ml MRP paint is £4.99 a pot (with discounts for larger orders)

At the full price Mr Colour is £2 per 10ml

MRP Paint is £1.67 per 10ml.

So MRP is cheaper.

But - of course MRP does not need thinning, now as I do not use Mr Colour I am not certain of the thinning ratio but assuming 50:50 the calculation using Mr Levelling Thinner costing £10.95 per 400mls - 30mls being £0.82.

Consequently thinned it works out at £1.41 per 30mls of airbrush ready Mr Colour paint compared to £1.67 of MRP, so MRP on that basis is 18% more expensive to use....  Given how good this paint is I consider that well worth it.

Building LSP's the 30ml bottles are also a lot more practical than the small pots!!!!

Thats my inner rivet counter coming out.....!!!!!!!!!
