The MOANG F-15's were occasionally cleared for what they referred to as the "Viking departure"; much like in the first video, they picked up a lot of speed while flying low over the runway, then yanked the nose up and disappeared into the clouds. When departing east to west, that would have them going vertical right at the end of the western end of the runway, where folks typically sat on an outer road just outside the airport fence-line. Good days, those were.

That Po,ush nutjob in the MiG-29 brought a massive grin to my face. He gutted the stick as soon as he saw the number he needed. Awesome vid.

I remember the RCAF Starfighters and Voodoos doing the same thing. Run the length of the runway in ground effect, then a smooth pull to vertical and say bye bye.

Not as often seen with the Voodoos because they were basically alert birds, no jacking around, but the Starfighters in Germany would lift off like Soyuz....

Agreed, the Saturn V is an incredibly awesome machine. With any luck, next year I'll be headed to Florida, specifically to gawk at all of the space stuff there.

So was I  :(

But what's the truth about the rumor that a EE Lightning could outclimb a F-15A/C (with the

Lightning being almost dry at the end of it of course)?
