Bf 109E - Hasegawa/Frog 1/32

I should just have a look in the box to compare the Revell kit with the Hasegawa!

Two different versions, but I had to see how they solved a few things!

I have both the Frog and the Hasegawa kits, but as the Frog kit still had the parts sealed in plastic, I opened the Hase kit instead!

That one had the bags opened, and I noticed some (quite a lot) parts where loose, and the kit partly started!

Ah, good, then I'll just continue building it!

The box!

and the contents!

Decided to start with the engine, but to my surprise there was a part missing! The front part with the propeller shaft!

I also noticed that there's one more part missing, that I know of! :(

Ok, on to the Frog kit then! Wrapped in plastic no parts should be missing! ;)

I started out assembling parts like the drop tank and pilot!

As I'm about to paint the inside of the fuse on my Revell kit, I started to clean up the fuse of this one too!

As usual I tried the fit of the fuselage halves!

Horror! Fixable I guess! I just had to check the Hase kit!

Much better! ;)

I'm thinking of building both kits, but I'm not sure how to do with the missing parts!

Is there an easy way to cast a single piece?

Scratch build it perhaps, but I'm not sure how to approach it!

Get another engine! Either AM or perhaps someone have a scrapped one laying around!

The engine and other internals are only needed if they're shown. I could build it with the cowl closed!

I could bash both kits, but I'd prefer to build both!

Thought and suggestions are welcome!

I'll split this into two builds as soon as I know which way to go!

Cheers,

Håkan

I'm pretty sure the Frog kit is the same plastic as the Hasegawa kit Håkan, though I'm sure you knew that already (or have figured it out by now). When I built the Hasegawa kit it had the nasty splay at the front end too, though not as bad as your Frog example ( ).

As for the missing parts, I'd just close up the engine compartment, stick a brass or plastic tube out the front to hang the propeller off, and be done with it.

Wheeeew, i was hoping you'd post some pics of that Frog kit Håkan! I've never seen it before, is it a re-box of the Hasegawa kit? Don't really know what to advise you on the missing parts until you describe a bit more which parts are missing. You can scratch-build ANYTHING though! (can't break something hat's already broken, eh? )

Can't wait to see what you've got going on as you post more pics buddy! later, Russ

Thanks Kev and Russ!

Forgot to write that I've already noticed that they where the same kit!

That's more or less why I put them in the same tread!

Closing up the engine compartment is the easiest solution for the problem, and I might just do that! Don't have to show the engine and stuff on every kit, even if it's nice when they have that option!

Sorry Russ, but I forgot to take a pic of the Frog contents!

Here's a pic of the part from the Frog kit!

Not sure how to scratch build something like that! Layers perhaps?! Green stuff?!

As i'm going to build these kits more or less ootb, I have the pilot too!

Here's a pic of the Hase and the Revell pilot!

Looks pretty much alike, except Hase is smaller and have japanese features! If I can make it fit, I'll replace him with a sturdy german instead! :)

That's all for now! :)

Cheers,

Håkan

Hi Håkan,

I found a very old, build and demolished Hasegawa Me109E somewhere in the stash.

It was taken apart a long time ago for restoration - which offcourse will never happen.

The part you need is there as well, but without a shaft

I'm sure you can replace it - drill a hole and insert some plastic or brass rod!

If you fancy removing paint, some glue smears and repair broken parts etc., it's yours.

Just PM me and let me know if you want the whole kit of just a few parts.

Cheers,

Peter

I'll continue with the Hase kit here, and make a new thread for the Frog kit!

Got some RLM 02 on the inside of the fuse yesterday!

I'll start assembling as much as I can until the spare parts arrive!

The pilot is just trying out the seat! ;)

I've also assembled bomb and stuff!

Well, it feels a bit stupid to have split the builds, as the progress is pretty much the same!

At least for the moment, but i use the Frog kit as a test kit for mods and stuff that I apply on this one too if it works/looks Ok! :DodgeBall:

So this one also got some RLM 02 slapped on yesterday!

bf_109e_hase_rlm02_painted_640x480.jpg

As can be seen the Frog parts in the background pretty much looks the same!

Next I'll do some detail painting and start assembling some of it prior to some plumbing!

Cheers,

Håkan
