Gazzas
Hi All, I don't paint many things white. But now I've a couple of Sidewinders and a couple of stubby F104 wings in 1/32 scale. Of course, at the minimum I need a pin wash. Not sure if more is advisable for a bird in service. Any suggestions? Thanks, Gaz
thierry laurent
No, it is not required as keep in mind such missiles do not stay permanently on the planes. I have yet to see full scale "weathered" missiles! What you sometimes see is sections painted in slightly different color hues. Thierry
Gazzas
For the missiles I would at least like some definition at the joint between fin and body. I've spent the last two hours scanning every completed build that might carry white missiles. Not many had pictures close enough to be visible. I'm tempted to try to shade the lower sides of the fins... But it seems like something that could end up hideous. Gaz
thierry laurent
Personally, I would limit the weathering to a wash but it is up to you! T. Gazzas
98Wrangler
I never use pure white as the base coat. I use the lightest light grey possible and after weathering I use pure white for dry brushing. This pops the paint scheme with depth and the perception of an over-all white paint finish. Shawn M and Gazzas
Shawn M
i'd say variate the base tones to break up the starkness Gazzas
Gazzas
Guys, Thank you for your tips. I can see the sense in what you're saying. I'm still new to color modulation, and have only dry brushed armour to raise details. Dry brushing seems to work best with enamels for me, but it may just be my lack of experience. I'm going to sacrifice an unbuilt (and not likely to be built) kit in my stash for the sole purpose of learning how to work with white. I don't want to ruin this Starfighter.
