Future Projects – Short List

Recommended Posts

G'day Ladies and Gents,

last weekend was way to hot to do serious modelling. My man cave is in the attic and after an hour or so my brain was all mushy so I decided to browse through a couple of books (aerospace related, of course) that I bought back in the mid / late eighties.

Oh my, so many interesting subjects! Anyway, here is a short list of possible future projects (after all the ABIM GB is coming to an end...):

Beginning of short list/

B-58

Pros

- most elegant bomber ever

- simple shape

- NMF finish

- I have pretty good reference material

Cons

- it is big (but size doesn't matter)

- it is big (but I'm not afraid of big)

- complex landing gear

- three cockpits to furnish

- apart from the prototypes not much choice of marking options

RA-5C

Pros

- very elegant A/C

- fairly simple shape

- nice marking options

- I have fairly good reference material

Cons

- pretty big (but size doesn't matter)

- pretty big (but I'm not afraid of big)

FB-111A

Pros

- scale drawings almost completed

- I like the early SAC camo

- I like wing swingers

- It's one of my all time favourites

Cons

- it is big (but size doesn't matter)

- it is big (but I'm not afraid of big)

- complex shape

- complex wings

- complex landing gear

- I have limited reference material about the cockpit

Alpha Jet

Pros

- nice little trainer / ground attack A/C

- elegant shape

- fairly simpe shape

- partly german design

- Luftwaffe camo

Cons

- I have zilch reference material

- it's small

L-1049G

Pros

- 1/72 scale plans complete, can be easily upscaled

- my favourite airliner

- I like the early Lufthansa livery

- my uncle was a dispatcher at FRA in those days and introduced me to the world of aerospace

Cons

- it's bloody big (but size doesn't matter)

- it's bloody big (but I'm not afraid of big)

- zillions of passenger seats...

End of short list/

What say you?

Cheers

Rainer

I only say that cause we have 61-2059 "Greased Lightning" that set a trans-continental speed record of an average of 938 mph flying 8,028 nmi. from Tokyo to London in 8 hr, 35 min here at the Strategic Air Command in Omaha.

Uh, oh, I never was in Nebraska... Is it in good condition? Can one crawl all over it and take pics?

Cheers

Rainer

There has to be something disturbing in the air where you guys are.

For someone to choose a B-58 over a Connie, the most beautiful propliner ever to fly, is downright disturbing...

Ohhhh man, remind me next time I'm in Omaha, NOT to drink the water!

A B-58 is attractive, but a Super Constellation is just frikkin' gorgeous! A true Lady if there ever was one.

If there was ever an airplane that looked like it was just meant to fly, it's the Super Connie.

Yup, I love propliners.
