Personally I would like to see a set of resin wings, without the flaps, "personalized" for the Tamiya '51 kits. Then we would have a nice set of smooth wings for that outstanding kit. I myself think the wings on the Revell kit are the MAIN redeeming factor other than cost. I'm not knocking the interior, wheel wells and gear as they are very nice. Fit (in some areas) needs work, poor clear parts, and the sink areas on the flaps and gear doors take away from this kit. Just my 2 cents.

Paint looks great John.  But doesnt the yellow on FF extend all the way from the spinner to under the exhausts at an angle, and then on the top back to the panel line ahead of the canopy?   Or were you just not done spraying all the yellow at one time?

Either way, seems to be coming along swimmingly

Brian,

I had planned on doing it that way but, after closer examination of photos, I don't think the OD/Green that was used to cover the invasion stripes were still in evidence on the spine and on the wings. As I preferred to have the OD/Green patches on the build I decided to revert to the earlier scheme with just the nose painted yellow.

John,

I like your idea of the puttied wings for the Tamiya kit - you know, they could even just come up with an additional sprue and it would all be over in an instant...

You bird is looking good in paint tho.  I hear you on the sink marks.  As soon as I can wrap up two of my builds I'll start on the Mustang.

Looking forward to seeing how the paint comes out.

Chris

Thanks Chris. It really isn't a BAD kit but my preference is the Tamiya due to better detail and fit mostly. Maybe someone will look into mating the wings from the Revell to the Tamiya. I wish I had checked that before I got on with my build.

Hi John
Great to see you have the Mustang in the paint shop and always a pleasure watching you work your magic with an air brush - paint work/ invasion stripes are spot on. Completely agree about your assessment of the kit and I’m right with you on wanting a set of resin wings with the rivets already ‘puttied in’.
Keep ‘em comin

Thanks Peter. Painting is about finished so now it's on to applying decals. :) (I have again changed my mind on the painting but will wait until it's finished to post photos. I think you will like it.)
