RAF East Wretham P-51 FISNISHED!!!!

ok, its time!!!

This is part of a project i had to build a few Mustangs of the same unit, the unit i choose was RAF East Wrentham, as some of you may remember i built 'stinky' a few months ago. Now while researching the subject and asking on several forums about 1/32 Mustangs i was gifted this 1/32 Tamiya Mustang!!! (thanks to the gifter you know who you are)

anyway this is probably the most expensive kit ive built, and i really want to do it justice so dont expect lots of updates, i know many of you have built this kit, so ill no doubt be asking for help as i go along, i just hope my skill level is enough for this kit

wish me luck

Have fun with it, don't rush. It's a beautiful kit and there are several finished on here that you can use for reference. Always good to see another Mustang, especially finished in the markings of a different fighter group.

I have a soft spot for east Wrentham as i have family living in the village, so for me it makes sense, i hopefully will get a finished photo of her and her sisters actually on the base (or what remains of it)

UPDATE 1

ok ive spent about 4 hours today building the engine, and its not finished!!! the engine is a kit in its self, with more parts than some kits

once the pieces are cleaned up (and there isnt that much cleaning to do) the fit is near perfect

the has been a couple of seams to clean up but nothing major, the instructions call out for a gloss black paint, so ive used alclad, gloss black primer

now the questions begin

im using this as a reference

is this accurate? to work from?

also - reading forward in the instructions you get choices for A,B,C i know about that tail unit and thats sorted, but how can i find out about the different cockpit options? for my Wrentham girl?

thanks in advance

If you can find Brett Green's book on building the Tamiya P-51 Mustang I suggest you pick it up.  Even if you don't go for all the options and such that Brett does, the tips and pictures are helpful.  Here is a link to the build review from the book.  If you scroll down you'll see a picture of the nose and you'll see what I mean (down below) about most of the engine being covered up.

I used it on my Big Beautiful Doll and will refer to it again when I start on Duchess Arlene. some time......

Good luck!

Chris

BTW, don't go too crazy on detailing the spark wires, etc until you get a look at some build references.  The engine mount frames and the exhaust covers an awful lot of the sides of the engine.  I even painted my spark plug wires bright red and you just can't see them.

Dennis, JUMP IN!!

Even if you don't go for all the AM stuff, it really is a fun build.  Very detailed, the instructions are pretty good and there are a lot of reference material available.  It will challenge you, but in a good way.  You won't need to man-handle bits to get them to fit, so you can concentrate on a tight assembly and however much detailing you want to do.

And in the end, you'll have a great plane in your display case.

Always good to see one of the lesser-known FGs represented.  Following.

i plan to do a few of that FG, up to now ive done 'Stinky' (Hassegawa kit)  and i have decals for 5more in 1/32, im hoping the new Revell kit meets expectations due to cost (1 already on order - having worked Over time especially to get it)

i think, this one will be HEAT WAVE!!
