LDSmodeller
Hi all Seeing as I only have 5 weeks to turn this out I thought I'd better get started. I am plannng to build the mount of one George (Grumpy) Unwin QV-H He was during the Battle of Britain an NCO pilot who ended up with 13 confirmed victories, some which he scored with this aircraft. The aircraft was only armed with the x 2 20mm cannon, all .303Mg were removed. 19 Squadron only had their aircraft a few months when they reverted back to the MK Ia's The current spitfire wing was not rigid enough to take the Hispanio's recoil and needless to say due to warpage cannons refused to fire!!! (downright nasty when you're turning with a Bf 109) George Unwin wrote of how he would have to slew his aircraft to fire his one working cannon!!! Please enjoy This is an old kit, it is supposed to be a Mk II except , it doesn't have the coffman starter (Starboard side). The cockpit is quite basic but I'll had a few bits and pieces, to make it look busy The lower wing will need to have panel lines nearest the wheel well filled in and rescribed, as well as a a blister for the Hispanio cannon (20mm). The wheel wells will need some work as well. Upper wing will need the same treatment re panel lines and blister for cannon, plus blister for area above wheel well This is the RR Merlin, not the greatest but it won't be seen any way but have to start some where!! LSP_Kevin
This one will be interesting to watch! If this is the kit I think it is, I remember building it as a lad (though I never bothered to paint it, let alone rescribe the panel lines). I thought it had been put out to pasture long ago! LDSmodeller
Hi all Well under new management AKA Failed Group build A progress report. Added some framing to fuselage and a rear bulkhead Starboard side have painted remote control indicator (just have to paint interior white with red quarter) and Identification lamp switch. Still have a lot of things to add both sides of fuselage but will get there! Rear seat bulkhead Revell had moulded it a solid mass , so I removed the inner to leave the outer framing and added framing strenghteners (V frame). have yet to paint the regulator top of bulk head. I couldn't find any pictures showing the radiator flap control (rod appendage) linkage so the attachment is a guess. but you can't see the connection once the seat is in and fuslage closed up Shot of front of pilots seat with armour, I chose to use a metal seat as opposed to a bakelite type, also a shot of the forward frame/instrument panel. Still have to weather it some what. Close up shot of instrument panel, still have to add rudder pedals and colour in the oxygen regulator, (top LHS) As you can see still have to dirty up cockpit some with a wash, though these a/c were only used for 2-3 months so would not be as used/abused as their Mk I/Ia stable mates Hope you enjoy Regrds Alan
fastzx
Alan, I just stumbled on your Mk1b build! I had an old Hasegawa Vb with the decals shattering and wanted to convert it to a Mk1b do you have any other photos or profiles of the Mk1bs from No 19 squadron? I have an old Superscale Intl decal set for a Mk1a QV * K but was looking for codes and serial # for a Mk1b from 19 squadron. Any help resurrecting my old Hase Spitfire to a Mk1b would be great. I put out a request for info on ARC and am still awaiting some info....none of the Spitfire references I have show much. They do talk alot about the canon armed Mk1bs of 19 Squadron but not a lot of pics. I understand they all wanted their Mk1a planes back! Sure would like some help.. Thanks, Jon
