Too bad Don. Did you get the chance to do any modelling this weekend?

Cheers.

Nad, nichts, nothing.

Now packing to get on a plane to Shanghai. It will be Friday before I get home. First week in Feb is looking pretty clear though, I hope to get something done then.

Cheers

Don

Yep, I feel your pain.

She'll be there waiting when you get back.

Have a safe trip.

Cheers.

At last, some photos. Taken with my iPhone, so sorry for the poor quality.

Wings and fuselage

Now onto some cockpit stuff:

I would also like to introduce you to the pilot - Edgar A. Obviously, I still have to attach his head and one arm, but he will be guiding this particular Spitfire on its journey through this build. His mate, Edgar B, will be piloting the Mk IX when I get onto that.

That's all for now. I hope to close up the fuselage this week and then either start filling rivets on the wing or start the Mk IX, or both.

Cheers

Don

I shook the box and a MkXVIe fell out....

I have got the MkXVIe almost ready for primer. Some small areas that need touching up, that's all.

Edgar A is still without his head. This will be added after paint as it makes the cockpit easier to mask without it.

PLEASE REMIND ME TO ADD HIS HEAD BEFORE I PUT THE CANOPY ON!!!!

Then I shook another box and a Mk IX started to fall out....

No painting on the engine, it is just there to hold the cowlings and prop in place.

So now we have IX and XVI in progress.

Not much is going to happen for the next few weeks due to work but I hope to really crack on with this in April and actually finish the GB on time.

Cheers

Don

Oh yeah!

Looking good Don.

That's some cracking progress. Amazing how quickly things come together once the cockpit is finished.

Cheers.

P.s, don't forget to glue Edgar A's head on before you button up the canopy....... :innocent:

Hi Don,

I've just enjoyed re-reading this thread and studying the engine photos as I'm fast approaching that stage on my build.

Lovely, sharp images so thanks for that.

Hope all is going well and look forward to more from you in due course.

Cheers.

Well, I'm back in black...

Spent the afternoon spraying black primer onto the Mk XVI. Gonna leave it a week and then do the top coat (silver). I'm quite please with the result, there are some rough patches that need buffing, but mostly it's OK. I'm not aiming for a high gloss finish because the scheme I have in mind is not NMF (and I can't get a high gloss shine to save my life).

No pics, who wants to see a black Mk XVI anyway?

Looks like I will finish it before end of May, but the Mk IX is going to be late.

Cheers

Don

That XVI looks ever so sleek, will look great with paint on.

Looking forward to seeing a silver Spitfire!! What paint are you going to use for the silver?
