Polikarpov I-16 type 24 coming from ICM

Just to wrap it up, there is only one form of 1/32 scale I -16 produced by Special Hobby and repacked by Azur. If you know ICM's 72nd. and 48th. scale I-16s, you know we are up for a  treat .

BTW: How many I-16 form SH did you build in the last decade? sorry? None? of course, it is a short run kit and takes a hell of a lot of work to bring it to nowadays standards. So there.

ICM is most welcome and I am shaking with excitement to lay my hands on it.

I know the SH is short-run and needs "work", but to me that's fine. I'd rather have an un-kitted subject than an existing one be improved.

No, I've never built ISM kits. Never heard of them.

I've built a grand total of 1 SH I-16.

I'm so glad you are looking forward with excitement to ICM's 1/32 I-16. I must say there are many, many kits ahead of it in my wish list.

When you see the ICM plastic Dean you'll likely change tack. I would rate the 1/48 Foxbat I'm building as somewhere between Hasegawa and Tamiya in terms of detail, finesse and fit with Trumpeter plastic (which is pretty good).

There are loads of kits I'd like to see given new tool treatment in preference to many on the hitherto unkitted list. In 1/32 alone the Revell Beaufighter, Bf 110 G-4 and MiG-29A (latter on its way), Trumpeter E E F.2A/6 Lightning, Hasegawa Ki-43 Hayabusa etc.

I notice Begemot do a fairly comprehensive set of decals for the I-16 type 24. Look super:

If Hasegawa ever revamps the Oscar, I'll be grabbing one, for sure. I bought several of the ICM 1:48 kits for my ceiling queen combatants (need to get back on those, one of these days), and found them to be quite a surprise, being very nice little kits, and the price was certainly right. Box art is usually pretty cool too.

Thanks, I was about to say the same. The Azur kit IS the Special Hobby kit. So there's really only one 1/32 I-16 kit out there, reboxed in a variety of guises.

Difference, I think, is that old versions had no engine and had the front openings (that would normally reveal the engine) sealed up. One or two newer versions include an engine, and have those openings opened up. Those upgraded versions are nicer IMO.

But yeah I don't think we can say we are oversaturated with I-16s.

I suspect it's fair to say that this would be the response from some quarters to ANY kit that is announced.

Fortunately there are many companies producing kits and most of us are bound to get something we want sooner or later.

I'm with Tony on this. As much as I'd like to see great kits of stuff not yet available in 1/32 plastic (I'm over the moon about the upcoming ZM Hs129 and Ki45, and I'd be super excited to see a plastic Helldiver or Me410 or Ta154 or Blenheim or La-5), I'm also equally interested in getting BETTER kits of some of the really important stuff that is currently not adequately represented. I REALLY want a state of the art Hellcat and P-38 series for example. And yes we need an update on Hasegawa's Hayabusa that matches the quality of their other recent japanese single engine fighter releases. We finally have a good Hurricane series from Fly, but at the same time I wouldn't mind a cheaper alternative from Revell or Hasegawa, so I could afford to build more of them, and faster. And of course we need a better P-51B/C.

As for the I-16... yes I have a few of the Special Hobby boxings. But seeing as the available offerings of russian aircraft in 1/32 are SO limited, I won't complain about another. They are small aircraft and have a lot of variant/painting options, so doing several could be appealing. Would I have preferred a 1/32 La-5 or LaGG-3 or Pe-2 or Tu-2? Yeah.... but give ICM some time. If they do well with the I-16 then we might see the more exotic stuff later.

That reminds me, it's about time I go and buy a Special Hobby Yak.
