Italeri F-104S ASA Starfighter Tiger Meet

Recommended Posts

I double checked the instructions for which hooked needed to be opened up and did so. I then added the light lenses as indicated.

I finally installed the MLG bay first.

I used some additional CA plus micro balloons to strengthen the joint. Then I added the cockpit tub and closed up the fuselage.

Just a bit of tape to hold it together.

I used the new Tamiya Extra Thin Quick Set cement for this. It worked as advertised but be warned. If you're not ready with the parts, it'll have evaporated before you get the parts together.

With the tape and clamps off, everything looked good.

As good as the fuselage that's been on the RIGHT side of my workbench for the last couple years:

I finished off the night by sanding all the seams and filing some small gaps.

So finally a bit of progress.

Thanks everyone! It seems to be moving faster now that the fuselage is together.

Nice progress, Carl. You've certainly go a lot going on on your bench at the moment!

Kev

Thanks Kev!

Actually it's just the T-33 and the F-104. The F-8 resides on the right side of my bench next to the printer. On top of which are a Dragon 109E and a Hasegawa FW 190. The left side of course suffers from a Mossie infestation :)

I find two at once is my limit. I can work on one while the other is drying or giving me fits.

I tried to do three Spitfires at the same time once. I figured I had the paint out, how much harder could it be to paint the parts for all three at the same time?

It was more trying to keep everything straight after the fact. I gave up quite quickly and did them one at a time.

Some more progress on the build from the last couple of nights.

First off, to make sure the plane wasn't a tail sitter, I added some nose weight. 8¢ worth. I used PVA glue to hold them in place.

Once dry, I added the lower panel and closed up the nose.

Thanks HÃ¥kan!

I painted the fuselage tonight. I used Gunze Silver as the plane was painted and not bare metal.

I then attached the intakes and inlet cones.

Finally the main wings went on.

There's a bit of touch up needed on a couple places and then I'll do the final coat of silver.

It's starting to look like a Starfighter.

Thanks Shaka and HÃ¥kan! It's certainly long with the nose now on.

The boys weren't trying to destroy the house so I snuck away and painted the blue on. I was concerned here as it's a feathered edge between the blue and the silver.

I think it's OK but I'll see once it's dry if I just change it to a hard edge.

The tip tanks were done at the same time.
