What's the Deal with This Funky Green Color

So, I'm looking to do an "unpainted" f22 here, and I came across a ton of images and footage of unpainted f22's lookin' all funky and green, seen here:

What I'm wondering here is why are they that color? Is it, like, a primer that's put on to protect the airframe? Something to aid with stealth? I've heard they put a special coating over the planes for that, I think. I dunno.

I have zero knowledge about modern aircraft, so excuse me if this is some super basic thing.

I think you hit the nail on the head - probably some sort of undercoating before the stealth coating gets applied.  I'm fairly certain SOMEONE here has more direct knowledge of what that green stuff is.

That would be the result of the development between Nasa and Lockheed for advanced LARC-TPI polyimide primer.  Beautiful stuff if you interested in chemistry.

I actually think I came across something regarding this on a forum. It's a newer, less invasive primer without chromium added, right?

Oops, didn't see someone else covered this lol
