williamj
Riveting is done...added new very thin exhaust shrouds(instead of the 2+4's). Painting perhaps this weekend. MikeMaben
Thanks Mike......Even if the gun wasn't used or mounted it is a cannon blast tube nonetheless, sorry. The initial design was for a cannon, but was unpopular due to recoil problems.. Good God I'm starting to sound like Jennings. Don't want to sound pedantic. Yes there was a tube opening there (obviously) after they decided not to mount a centerline cannon, ( I read somewhere can't find now of course) as it vibrated the engine mounts loose so they used to tube to vent the early magnetos which overheated. Then they fixed the mag problem and it was left as eliminating it would have meant a major change in the engine's design and manufacture (used in 110s too). I'm just relating this as a possible point of interest to the gang. Zero77, Shaka HI, mpk and 1 other

Read that several E-4'S 7'S? on the Ostfront were retro ed in the field after they developed a softer recoil cannon, but not many. It was the F series that it all changed, read that it was Hartman's preferred weapon,He bragged that he could put one cannon round into a Ilyushin Il-2 Radiator (claimed he only fired one round..he was that good a marksman) then watched as the engine overheated and went down. mpk and MikeMaben

williamj
Now normally PE for me is a black time sucking vortex which spits me out into a world of failure and disappointment .. but I have actually experienced some success today with RB's canopy..Yay!!! And I do so like it. This was designed for the Has.109F but fits the CH very well indeed, and the 109E-4 used the same frame soooooo.? Did read the instructions twice before starting, that may have helped but I'm not admitting to anything. Not painting for a while...fiddly bits...too many. Guest Clunkmeister
Hey Martin...do me a small favor and count the rivets in the fus. of this 109E..and no,bullet holes don't count. might even paint the wheel wells candy apple red.. this is just between Martin and myself. Boy, that one got tore up a bit.. I love the Emil and the super clean and sanitary early war paint jobs. Am I right in assuming the CH Emil is the best Emil out there?
