My friend Joerg and I will leave Germany by car on Thursday morning, take the ferry to Dover in the afternoonhe , stay overnight

at the Best Western at the Harbour and will have a fantastic dinner and a couple of pints of Adnams Broadside at  Cullin's Yard - one of the best pubs we've ever been to and one of the reasons we travel by car. Friday we drive up to Telford and we'll be staying at the Holiday Inn right next door to the TEC - we always book our room one year in advance upon departure.

Hope to meet most if not all of you (shooping tours allowing) :)

Lothar

For those who have stayed at the Campus before, any good places to eat and/or drink in the area? Is it easy to get to the convention center on foot?

Evil Carrot.

It will take 30 minutes to walk to the Telford International Centre from the Campus. Taxi takes a few minutes but don't know how much they charge.
(Many taxi firms have a standing charge £5 due to Sunday charges and then the actual journey on top ... so make sure you ask).

The train station isn't far when you go back.

And the Campus offers food I think but in TELFORD TOWN centre there are a lot of Eateries ranging from American style to Italian food to pub food... if you Google
It you will see there are a cluster of foodie places not far from the IPMS centre.

I tried to link it but it would not work.

The Campus has I think food and for campus guests there are vending machines ...

And of course the international centre also caters for eating but can be expensive!
Hope that helps.

:)

Wow, thanks for all the info! It'll mostly be for Friday and Saturday, tough. ;) Should be doable on foot but after getting all my "loot" on Saturday evening I'll probably need a cab. :P

Well I've gone and renewed my IPMS UK membership and I'm trying to sell a few kits to raise some spending pennies so I've gone from unlikely to make it this year to most probably going. It's only an hour down the road for me so be rude not to make it really. Be the Saturday only though, working on the Sunday.

You have quite a few car parks locally, 3-4 multi-story and 2-3 large car parks, I think one or two is £1 all day, others more. You need to be at the TIC early to get in their car park, but if you don't it's a 3-4 minute walk from others (which can be a pain if you're buying lots of models and you have to haul them back to the car - or just with a club and have models to carry).

I live not to far from Telford, and in the coming weeks when I can nip out from work (I work in Telford) I will take a photo of all the car parks, price boards etc for people to see with a map marked up to show their places.

And remember the UK is changing over pound coins, so the meters will / may not   accept the solid gold coloured ones, the same for traders, the new coins are the two coloured metal items. So those that have change from past visits from abroad, be aware. They are no longer officially currency, but larger shops and some machines still accept them, there are £500,000,000 still in circulation!

Good point, as far as I know, no car park takes the OLD pound coin.
