Well, with the review of the kit published, I might as well say that Glen asked if I would be willing to build a T-28C for him to use as a display model. After talking to Brian who's done several for Glen, and my wife to make sure she had nothing planned, I eagerly said yes.
Most here know by now I've built several of the previously released T-28B, and this kit shares much with the B. There are a few minor changes to the rear of the aircraft to accommodate the arresting gear, but other than that, the only real visible changes between the two is the shorter, wider prop for carrier operations.
The B kit actually included a close representation of a C prop, so all's well there as well.

In conversation with Glen, I found out a few things he desires.
1. Basically built OOB for display, but I can use fabric seatbelts if I wish.
2. Make it clean. So no wild weathering.
3. Make it yellow. The yellow scheme is cool.
4. Close it up. Nothing hanging open. So, engine panels buttoned up and canopy closed.
5. Use the kit contents including the decals. I'll assume he didn't mean use ALL the kit decals, because that'll look real stupid. :)

So with those goals in mind, I'll set the MuG-23 aside other than when I'm waiting for something to set on this.
There's a show in Fort Worth in a couple weeks. If it's done, I'll take it there as a bonus.

Started about 2 hours ago.

Consoles trimmed and glued

Maybe I didn't listen quite as well as I should have. Base coat Alclad dark aluminum and will do some very minor chipping where boot wear is present.

Here's the first thing to watch for.
The engine must be assembled as such: the single hole in the rear facing one direction, and the notch on the front facing the opposite direction. So one on top, the other on bottom. This is CRITICAL!!!

Hole facing down....
IMG_4652-XL.jpg

Notch facing up.....
IMG_4653-XL.jpg

The instructions show the correct orientation, but there's a good chance the average builder might miss it. I did on my first build.
IMG_4623-XL.jpg

If you don't do this, the governor will be all goofy. The governor needs to face straight down, and is molded integral to the gearbox unit.   The gearbox notches in only one way, so pay close attention to this alignment.
Just trust me on this, guys. Do this, or regret it later.

I will follow this one. I got last night a T-28b from the sale at PCM and will build a French T-28S Fennec in Algeria (Berna decals make some nice schemes for that theater of operation), I will take pointer from your build.

Cheers,

David

I would love to do a Fennec and most of the A attributes went away when SuD Aviation updated the airframes for COIN work in Algeria but wouldn't the KH kit have the wrong canopy? I thought the Fennecs retained the A canopy not the lower B/D canopy?

Brian, I'm looking forward to seeing your yellow scheme. You told me which one you were doing, so I purposely ignore pics of that version when I see them. :)

Ernie
Nice start on the T-28C and I'll be following with intetest and taking notes along the way. Fantastic choice in the Big Yellow Bird and I only wish the two blade biprd would grace the shelves, as for some strange reason, it has always been my favorite. Why; who knows?
Thanks for the reminder on the correct engine orientation, as I know I would have missed it for sure

Ive ALWAYS loved those bright yellow birds with the green stripes a LOT.  My brother made one in 48th along with the infamous 48th Tigercat that started my obsession.

It is correct that most Fennec had the higher canopy but I found at least one Fennec with the lower canopy. Not sure when this picture was taken, but it looks contemporary to the Algerian war.

Sorry for high jacking the thread.

Keep up the great work, it will be stunning in yellow.
