Michael Scarborough
Hello all, I am happy to say I have the conversion set and a Gotha kit ready to crack open and begin the process. So, I'm wondering if anyone has actually seen this conversion through to completion and would like to share some thoughts on using Ron's set? I have the Gotha! Datafile Special and have just ordered Jack Herris' Gotha book. If anyone has suggestions on other references specifically showing the differences between the G.IV and the G.V, and how to apply them to the kit and conversion set, please let me know. Many thanks! Cheers from NYC, Michael
Rick Griewski
Interesting. I never heard of this set. Dang the Gotha kit is epic enough for me. Have you done an assesment of where the kit will be impacted? Please share some photos if you get a chance. Rick Michael Scarborough
seiran01
Hey Michael, I sent you the link to some of Ron's pics on facebook, there never were many published unfortunately... If I recall the upper wing on the V has a more pronounced sweep to it but I got rid of my gotha references when I decided to part with my conversion set. Think the lower wings outboard of the engine pods may have a bit of sweep too but don't recall with certainty. Rick - Ron only made about a hundred sets and sold them directly (with Richard from Aviattic helping him get the word out). New inner wing sections to be inserted into kit inner wing in place of the G.IV nacelles, resin bits for new upper wing join with sweepback, cockpit coaming, radiator, other less major parts, and vacform upper/lower engine pod halves. If i recall, an assortment of wire reinforced struts as well. Was 100 euro when available, not cheap but very nice quality. Guest Clunkmeister
I have a conversion kit as well. Bought it from Ron through Richard when it was offered new. I don't remember very many being offered, for sure less than a hundred. I remember seeing pictures, but some of the links I had have long since dried up. I guess if it's gonna be built it had better be done soon before all the links go away and we have zero reference pictures left whatsoever. It seems that potentially useful information has also been trashed by the PB debacle of greed. I was just trying to understand what the set was all about. No pictures. Darn. Michael Scarborough
Thanks for the feedback, guys and thanks, Mike, for the info. I'm working through my references now and hope to start this build during Christmas. I'll definitely keep a build log, so keep you eyes peeled.
