Very happy is understatement surely? Top notch all round... what a great fit that chin filter is!
Malta in WWII is one of my favourite areas of historical/aviation interest and Brian Cauchi’s book is a wonderful reference point.

After more sanding and filling along the wind roots and restoring panel lines and rivets it was time for the top colour.
Tamiya flat aluminium first and some Masksol
I wasn't sure of the best way to get some 'texture' into the paintwork with it being so 'dark', so when with 2 or 3 shades of grey and black.
The colour thought to be used was Dark Mediterranean Blue. On the acrylic/lacquer front these 2 seemed to be the closest I could find.
Working with a mix of 2 to 1 in favour of the darker shade and 70% Mr Levelling thinner here's the outcome
Apart from it being very glossy (I had some Tamiya flat base I was going to put in the mix) I'm quite happy with the result?
I think with the markings and some heavy weathering/fading it should work?

I'm noticing all of your question marks...
Personally, I think it's a bit heavy. Why would all those wing panel joints on the leading edge be dark and the centres light?

Thanks Richard. I'll have another look. Some of its the camera I think. It's not that contrasty in real life.

Shaping up very nicely.
I’m liking the modulation - looks quite pale/sun-faded/sand blasted which was evident on the Spits that lasted more than a few days/weeks in Malta.
