  1. Gang, As something of an apostle for card modeling, I suggest you take a look at the 1/32 (not a typo) SR-71 model now available at ecardmodels.com I've followed the buildup of the beta test model on the papermodelers.com Aviation forum, and the model is just spectacular! Besides the model itself, another designer is offering an add-on pack that allows you to build any of the blackbirds, plus gives starter carts, tow bars and other details. I have no connection with the designers or ecardmodels. I wish I had someplace to put a 40" NASA SR-71! I may buy one anyway in hopes of future shelf space. 2. More correctly, "Where are the Snowdens of yesteryear," the phrase with with Yossarian stunned a briefing into silence. He then repeated it in French. If you haven't read Joseph Heller's classic novel Catch-22 (to which Tench alluded), the reference is meaningless. At least they flew B-25s in the book and the movie! 3. More importantly, Ou sont les Neige-dens d'antan? Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum & ex-NASA flack)
  4. A Voice Crying in the Wilderness.... No market for X-planes? The Revell X-1 and Special Hobby X-15s seem to have done OK. I'd love to see an X-1A, X-2, X-3, X-4 and X-5. Maybe someone could "re-engineer" the CE X-1E conversion for the X-1? Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum & ex-NASA flack)
  5. The Trumpeter TBD-1 Devastator is their absolutely best kit ever! I especially like the "all clear parts" edition; makes you think the model isn't even there.... Oh...right.... Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum flack
  6. Of COURSE it'll come out soon, because I've decided to get out of 1/32 "Yellow Wings" kits! Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum flack)
  7. I was seriously hoping they'd release this kit! This is a different Pegasus from the company offering the 1/18 Bell X-1??? Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum flack)
  8. The scheme you quote is correct up to about 1934-35. After that, newly painted or reworked aircraft got aluminum lacquer overall on the fuselage. You still see pix of some aircraft -- notably SOCs and SBUs -- in the aluminum/gray scheme after the switchover. Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum flack)
  9. The reason I asked is because the resulting longer wing is absolutely perfect, not a hint of the stretch. Great work! Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum flack)
  10. I'll echo the kudos for the work so far. Great job! Are the extended wings original pieces put together from two kits, or did you recast them after lengthening? Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum flack)
  11. "I want my Teeeeeeee Beeeeeee Deeeeeeee...." Hey, it DOES have a Trumpeter kit number! Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum flack)
  12. Birdcage conversion to the XF4U-1!!!!! Yeah. Right.... Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum flack)
  13. They're from the 1/32 Eduard set "Seatbelts USAF & USN WWII early." I didn't use the mid-belt buckles; just too fiddly. Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum flack)
  14. Woo hoo! Five months of work and it's done. Herewith pix of my finished 1/32 Hasegawa P-26A, markings for a flight leader of the 6th Pursuit Squadron based at Wheeler Field circa 1939. Added details include some scratchbuilt interior parts, new engine pushrods and an exhaust collector. Rigging is .015 wire. The figure is a ground crew guy from somewhere, modified with a spare Master Details head. Not perfect, but overall a pretty good looking model. Comments welcome! Les (Friendly Airplane Asylum flack)
