Rick K Posted April 2, 2014 Author Share Posted April 2, 2014 The landing flaps on the Hasegwa kit are weak in detail and nasty sink marks. Using Eduard PE FW190 A8 Landing Flaps I get to work. Thinking in 3D is required when bending these. PE folding tool a must. Whew! Internal detail above has to be removed. Bottom shows all clean. Test fit looks good. Kit part compare to Eduard PE. This was tricky to bend and shape. Patience and the right tools required. Major work done. Will add hinges later during build as test fitting will be required. This was time consuming. Rick K Posted April 28, 2014 Author Share Posted April 28, 2014 Some bench time this weekend. Tail Wheel enhancement. Piston removed and drilled out with a 1.10mm micro bit. A 2mm x 0.45mm aluminum tube is cut and a plastic rod 1.0mm dia will be used as shaft guide. Test fit is good. Will align and glue then install prior to fuselage button up. Rick K Posted April 28, 2014 Author Share Posted April 28, 2014 (edited) Engine and tail wheel mount. Engine aligned and glued with 5 minute epoxy. Turbo supercharger plumbing is not mounted. Will mount prior to wing assembly. Tail wheel assembly aligned and glued with 5 minute epoxy. Next step will be to mend rear port fuselage install the pit and mount the wings. Wiring loom on starboard side of pit added. Will cover the MG ammo counters before inserting pit into fuselage. Wiring loom on starboard side. Port side wires to come. Rick K Posted June 21, 2014 Author Share Posted June 21, 2014 NO FOCKEING WAY! When I first test fitted the Planet Model FW190c conversion I noticed the fuselage was slightly warped at the tailplane. No problem, right? A little hot water and the shape was corrected. No problem, right? Fuselage glued, wings glued. Some putty, sanding and scribing on deck, No problem, right? Spidey sense is tingly. Ready for some more? Look carefully at the alignment of the stabilizers. The starboard plug is about 2mm higher than the port side...the hits just keep on coming. Image credit Doogs' This build is really testing me. There is some more major surgery in my future! Engine and cockpit fit turned out ok. Well, so it seems. No alignment pins or stringers the engine from the Hasegawa FW190D9 donor kit fit in the Planet Model fuselage with little fuss and alignment. HGW belts used and am not sure on final position of the left harness. TBD. Have a tailplane solution figured and hope to get to work on it in a few days. I've built several planet kits in the past (ok, started building) and many had that same stabilizer height issue when copying fuselage halves side to side. Rick K Posted June 23, 2014 Author Share Posted June 23, 2014 Did some cutting today. Line up cut at a seam. Did not want to cut on a seam, this was closest to common width with the Hasegawa tail. The twist is very clear here. Hope I can correct when the new tail is installed. Successfully removed the tail wheel, etc. some minor breakage, no prob to fix. Just some more work. Hasegawa tail cut at same panel line and is a close to match I can can get. Comparison C Tail (below) and D Tail (above)...FICE!
