This is my Trumpeter p-38 L. I have had this model since it was first released, but lost interest after a couple of months. Now its back down from the loft and nearing completion. I have backdated to a J-15. Ive deleted the fuel booster pumps bulges, Landing light, and small flaps. All being well it will be in the markings of "Happy Jacks Go Buggy"

Heres a picture of the underside. The white patches are the parts that have been deleted and brushed over with typewriter correction fluid. I have to add an underwing landing light next.

Heres one more picture of the Cockpit. Its OOB and i think it looks fine. The engine blocks, ammuntion boxes and nosecone are filled with lead shot, but i found that when i added the elevator it still tail sat! That led me to add more weight to the spinners!

Looks good.

I've been away from posting for awhile but I built the P-38 and it did need weight stuffed everywhere ahead of the main wheels. I even drilled a hole in the engines and filled them with lead shot and glue, and it will still will sit on its tail if pushed down at the elevator. I built mine in 30 days for a contest and it nearly killed me :D

I thought it was a good kit overall. Ended up glueing all of the movable control surfaces in place though.

Thanks Guys. The fit has been OK no real problem. I must admit it is a beautiful aeroplane. I will be gluing all of the control surfaces too. Just the dreaded metal finish to think of. I have Tamiya Gloss alluminium, but im not sure how it looks. I may go for Aclad polished Alluminium yet, still undecided.

do not use tamiya aluminium colors. alklad is some kind of tricky. i didnt have problems with it yet but friends of mine who did use it exactly in the same way i did. had seriouse cracking of the alklad sufrace.

if you dont want to use alklad, try out the new metallicer polishing colors from gunze. they are absolutely great. i have black iron here. you spray it on and then you slightly polish it with a q-tip. i cant tell the difference to alklad. but i have only used it on small areas so far.

cheers klaus

Hi GP,

great work on the trumpie P-38 mate. I always love seeing them built, and I reckon there are not enough built, just quietly. I'm going to have to get myself one at some stage too.

I remember when Koala built one a while back on these boards, and he commented that the fit of the parts was a little dubious in places...any problems for you thus far?

Great work, keep 'em coming mate.

Ango.

There hasnt been any real bad fit problems. The radiators were a little tricky, but thats been it so far. I still have a little more sanding and filling to do before the metal finish. I have the decals now though and they are great.
