US F/A-18E Superhornet just took down a Syrian Su-22 that was bombing coalition forces. Could it be the first air to air victory for the Superbug?

Well, that means Sukhoi might want to think about firing up the production line again....

Didn't the Turks splash a Russian Su-22 last year?

Yup. I have to say I wish some would fire up a production line with some injection molded SU-22's!

Last US air to air kill was 1999 during the Kosovo conflict F-16C over MIG-29

Meh. Lock on and fire a BVR missile against a target that likely was running away and had few defenses, even if it knew it was under attack. I guess this is what passes for air combat today.

I read on another site that the kill was made with an AIM-9X at less than a mile.

About halfway down the page.

The bigger question is what happens in the World if someone splashes a US bird?
