Help me pick my first 1/32 kit

This is my first post. I've been back in modelling for about a year now. I've worked exclusively in 1/48 so far, but I would like to try 1/32. Im sure some might suggest starting small, but I'm keen to try a big project. That said, I'm torn right now between the Tamiya Mossie and the HK B-25. I'd like to do the clear version of the B-25 and put a lot of am and scratch detail into the interior. The Mossie on the other hand seems more like a kit that will display beautifully without any aftermarket.

Does anyone have any recommendations about which kit to go with? Has anyone done the clear version of the HK B-25? I've gotten a lot of inspiration from build threads I've read on here already, so I'm sure I will be the limiting step on either kit, but I'm just having a hard time picking one. I'd appreciate any thoughts people can contribute.

G'day mate!

Good on you for getting on board, there's lots of awesome builds if you need inspiration. If you're after an opinion and it's between the two, I'd go the Tamiya mozzie first, just because it should be a trouble free build as your first one.

I would definitely love to see some more HK B-25s on the go, so you have my vote as that for your second. But either way, make sure you're modelling for yourself.

Enjoy and good luck.

Cheers. Appreciate the quick reply. Honestly, both kits are on the eventual to do list, but I guess the reason I'm sort of stuck on making a decision is that I've never spent this much on a kit, and it's going to be a Christmas present from the wife, so I just want to get off to the right start, I guess. Anyway, I'll be happy to start posting my first WIP soon

I would also do the Mossie first. The Tamiya kit will be an easier build due to Tamiya's superior engineering, and will give you a good primer on what modeling is like in 1/32nd without any aftermarket. It will also look spectacular out of the box. Once you have that one under your belt, hitting the B-25 with some aftermarket will be easier.

Firstly, welcome aboard!

Secondly, am I correct in my understanding that you don't have either kit yet, and are trying to decide which one to buy? Not that it matters, as my advice would be the same either way, and the same as the other guys: go with the Tamiya Mosquito. It'll demand less of you, and represent a better stepping stone for the kinds of builds you're contemplating.

Whichever one you choose, remember to enjoy it, and I look forward to seeing your WiP thread.

I've build the HK B-25 and 3/4 built the Tamiya Mossie.  The Mossie is a mouth full of work but an extremely nice kit. Just be warned that it's a much bigger project than the B-25 even out of the box.

It's a bunch of kits that make up one kit if that makes sense.  Two engines, the cockpit, bomb bay etc are all kits in themselves.

It's an out of the box great kit

The B-25 is nice too fit wise and ease of build but to do it right (and if you care too) it needs a lot of aftermarket bits like Harold's props, G-force landing gear at a min.

Oh, and welcome to LSP too.  And for what it's worth, nobody here will belittle a B-25 just out of the box either,  rest assured on that.  We build for fun, that's what it's all about.

I would actually suggest the HK B-25 as your first 1/32 kit if a twin engine prop is what you want.  Out of box it's still a real winner and a far easier build.

I finished my B-25 even with the AM, I haven't finished my Mossie as is the same story for several members here due to just burn out.

I agree with LSP Ron, except that I found the contents of the Tamiya Mosquito terrifying for my befuddled brain and it's a stash queen.

Your wife will want to know you're going to build it and see the result so I'd go for a shiny metal B-25. Yeah, I know some girls like camouflage too, but I'll stick my neck out and say the majority like shiny and/or colourful.

The Mustang isn't such a bad idea either for the same reason, especially if you go for a de luxe Tamiya boxing.

Mine's getting me whisky (probably) which always gets "built"

Welcome aboard :post1:

I've built Tamiya Mossie Box Stock and can't say enough about the quality and detail is unsurpassed; after all, it's Tamiya. The kit is complicated and you need to pay attention to the instructions but with care and taking your time, you will have the jewel of your collection.

I've built the Mossie and Ron is right in that it's really a bunch of smaller models that all fit together in the end. I stopped on it at one point for about a year before coming back to it and finishing it.

I have the B-25 in the stash and plan to start it soon.

I think the main concern for either kit is having the space to display them once they're done. My Mossie just fits in my display case which means the B-25 won't.
