F-4E Phantom II in Hill Grey

I've got a picture of an F-4 with 5 SUU-23 gunpods hung off it. One on each hardpoint. Another photo taken at Danang shows an F-4 with bombs hung on the inboard wing pylons an and SUU-23 on each of the outer hard points.

I think I have a couple more SUU-23 pods but they're the stubby ones. Five would look seriously imposing.

So many different schemes the Phantom wore, the Hill scheme was very attractive. That's a big chisel to remove the BDR plates....

Don

So very true Don. The blue JASDF ones were particularly striking.

I used they chisel more as a scraper really. I found it kept things more even versus just sanding the patches off.

My Brother was 3rdTFS Squadron Commander 84-86. It was Euro when he started and was Hill Gray II when he left.

Thru the power of modeling I meet the crew chief who was there 83-85...small world.

Martin, would love to see the picture in the Euro scheme.

She was one of the last QF-4's to be shot down  Dec 2016

Great pics.

I managed a bit more work on the fuselage. I added a couple small spacers under the in flight refueling panel to get it level with the rest of the fuselage.

I glued and started filling in the panel where the IFR probe is on the F-4J.

I then started replacing the various panel lines that were removed with the raised panels.

I'm on board and I already have writers cramps taking note. Going to be a incredible project and I'm in my front row seat for the entire journey.

Keep 'em coming

Thanks Peter! I've wanted to do a Hill Grey one for some time. I did an F-4D a while back but for me, it has to be an E with the nose gun.

Looks sweet Carl ... how much weathering will you go for on the grey scheme?

Jim

Thanks Jim! I will probably do it fairly clean. I'm not much for weathering my builds really.

There's going to be a bit of a pause as we just started our renos and I'm in the midst of packing our kitchen stuff away so that it can be gutted. Hopefully I'll be back at the bench later in the week.

Carl..

very nice start.

As always your builds are quite engaging full of photos et al..

Keep it flowing.

Thanks Maru!

I've made the switch to SmugMug so these pics shouldn't disappear anytime soon.
