Hi,

Here is my last build, started at about the same time than my Bae Hawk T1. I'd like to build something easy and simple beside to the Hawk is not so simple in my opinion.

But the Claude is not so easy either !

I started with the cockpit, and after only a few steps i noticed that it was unbuildable as described in the instructions ! Actually the instructions say to use the plastic sidewalls with the additional resin parts (resin parts are included in the "Hi Tech" version and are a very nice addition of details). The cartridges magasines just in front of the instrument panel cannot be fitted with the inner structure plastic parts.

So i've unglued the resin boxes (pretty easy with CA debonder) and then unglued the plastic sidewalls with mineral spirit. It does work ! But the result is not clean, and i had to sand it clean, apply some putty and sand it clean and smooth :

And then i've made the inner structure with styrene strips :

And then reglued the resin boxes and accessories, with a few additional details :

I've also modified some parts, opened the rear bulkead, add a few wires, and so on...

Here is the resin seat :

And the stick leather cover and the headrest sculpted with green stuff putty, the headrest will be glued once the fuselage is painted :

At the same time my daughter (4 years old) is also buidling her first model ! (under my supervision....)

:)

This is one of the nice Zvezda "Planes" kit, cute, easy to build, and quite cheap. The only thing that should be improved is that the markings are stickers. Indeed it is easy for young children, but a decal alternative would be nice. But for a few bucks, children are happy and have a nice and funny model to start building kits.

Next, the engine. I've made the rocker arms push rods with 0.44mm nickel wire, dipped in Uschi burnishing solution to make them black. I was not sure that it would work with this material, but it works ! However, it was quite difficult to place them in their holes without scratching the black surface. First, i drilled every rocker arm push rod position to be able to move them in and glue them.

Then i used the PE sparking wires. Usually i made them with copper or lead wire, but here i tried to use the parts supplied in the box. With a good coat of paint they are not too much two dimensional. But bending and gluing the rings on the rocker arms push rods was pretty painful...

And then i tried to make the engine cowling support struts with plastic strips (0.64mm), but compared to real thing picture, i think they are too thick and i will try to use 0.33mm nickel wire instead. As in the picture they seems to be thinner than the rocker arms push rods, it should be ok (will try it tomorrow) :

EDIT : i've corrected my mistake, calling "rocker arms" what is actually "push rods". Please excuse my english !

Kagemusha, what are those Maru illustrations? I found the pictures with google image but i dont know where they are from.

They are a series of Japanese books, I've got a few which I bought quite a few years ago, they have technical drawings etc, and also included are some very nice cockpit illustrations like you have posted.

This book is ne of the Maru Mechanics series. Very good as far as I can tell from looking at the pics !

In France, they are sold on-line by Lela-Presse.
