Just tell them I repaired it, job done, I have managed to get sealant and paint all over the place in real life. :)

I know that transparencies weren't always perfect back then.  But amid all of that matte paint, paint modulation, chipping, fading, exhaust, and oil staining, I like a nice, shiny clear bit of plastic that says:  "Right!"

But we all have our likes and dislikes.  And our reasons for doing so.  That's one of the great things about this hobby.  If you like what you have done, that is the "Right" answer to your question.

I appreciate all of your answers and thoughts.   I'm a fair way away from my next canopy.  But I will definitely be applying your useful replies.
