Trumpeter SBD-2 Midway Survivor, Call her done!

So after seeing Peter's work on his, I was tempted! This is a model I started some time ago, like drilling holes in the flaps and dive brakes and got bored.

The SBD is my favorite US Navy WW2 aircraft, it has such classic lines. So I'll be using the Yellow Wings decals and the Black Box interior for that one. I'm not decided yet on the paint scheme, pre-Midway

with the red center in the cockades and white and red rudder or the Midway era with painted out red in the markings. So guess I'll flip a coin on that one!

So have a Happy Holidays every one!

So on with the tedious chore! That is drilling the holes in the flaps and dive brakes. I am using a full carbide drill reamer, souvenir of my passage in the aerospace industry.

The mid one is done, you can see the difference between them. The external diameter is ok, so I'm drilling from the inside to match the ext. dia. After that then I can move to something more fun, the cockpit!

Stay tuned!

Nice work on the flaps and I'm pretty sure I will be able to follow without overstepping the rules. Looks like a ton of fun.

You are totaly right! If you don't go through that step, it will show in the end, because the holes are not the same diameter all the way There is a ridge half way through and with paint it will look ugly.

And we really don't want that!

Cheers

So been working on the IP, used Airscale decals for the dials. A bit more work and color to do. One of the .50cal will have to go, it was usual practice to remove one of the two to gain weight, wich one I don't know.

Will have to do some research on that.

Started removing all the details in the fuselage for the Black Box cockpit.

Stand by.

Happy New Year to all! A little update. I started working on the cockpit. The interior green is a bit dark, that is the filter I used.

Still a gazillion things to put in there, it is quite amazing all the gizmos that went into the SBD. Amazing that they fitted two airmen in there too!

Stay tuned!
