Scary, don't think I'd like to fly on that regularly when it was in service, maybe once for the experience but that would be it, but then I do like riding nice sounding motorbikes.

Cheers

Dennis...

The sound of a Motorbike is still like a symphony and music to ears compared to that TU 144 !!!

No Martin.only on that noisy old video that I posted. I am probably in the minority thinking that...
(Sounds very noisy on the documentary video too ... )

That is the whole point, not many people did. Many remember Concorde. I would pay in gold to take a ride in any of those two. ( I believe Wolf was fortunate to experience Concorde.)

Cool documentaries - thanks!

Just for fun, apply the information in those videos about the Russians stealing/copying/immitating everything they could get their hands on to all of their equipment that looks a lot like their western counterparts:

Tu-4 (B-29)

MiG I-270 (Me 263)

OKB-1 140 & OKB-1 EF 131 (Ju 287)

Tu-160 (B-1)

Su-25 (YA-9A)

Buran (Space Shuttle)

K-13 (AIM-9 Sidewinder)

Those are just off the top of my head. The list goes on and on. And on...

Hi D.  I am curios about the YA-9 story? Is there any evidence of coping design features for Su-25 ? As far as i know Su-25 started as T-8 prototype in late sixties and pretty much reminded the same. It's main competitor was Il-102, that lost . Sure there is a resemblance of this more-less conventional design, closer examination reveals very different engineering approach.

The question is why wouldn't  Russians copied A-10 configuration instead ?

Cheers

M.

The Su-25 actually pre-dates the YA-9 by a good couple of years, and the Buran looks like the Space Shuttle because that shape is the most aerodynamically efficient for that kind of vehicle (the Russians actually changed the design of the Buran at the early stages of development because it looked too much like the Space Shuttle, before reverting back when they realised that it was less efficient).

There was also a sense of pride amongst Soviet designers that meant they tried to better, rather than just emulate, Western designers. This is why the Tu-160 is larger, heavier and faster than the B-1, and the Buran had a payload of 95 tons compared to 29 for the Space Shuttle.
