Hi guys,

was thinking about easy project to run it together with my bigger projects just to relax a little bit

and be able to complete the model rather than a few months

and because Steaman is one of my favourite aircraft I have decided to start Silver Wings all resin beauty

my aim is this one...

Just some snap shots of kit content

Im plan to build it OOB except to HGW seatbelts. For smaller part CA glue will be used, for main parts HP epoxy, and Gunze C paints and some subtle weathering for finish

have started with engine, upper wing and cokpit

so far great fit, little bit of cleaning, but no issues

the only challenge are the instructions hand drawings, for smaller parts really unclear

some weathering done

neutral brown panel wash  and airfield dust pigments used for interior

the weathering is quite subtle in reality, on photos it looks overexposed

I have used HPH epoxy glue for instrument glassing based on their product leaflet recommendation and is working quite nice

Very impressive work on this one Jan, I too will be following along.  How strong is that joint on the wing panels?  With the embedded wire, it should be okay but I would be afraid of the joint cracking with any load on it.  keep up the good work!

to answer your question Frank. I have tried different epoxy glues, but after I started to work with HPH epoxy glue Im not afraid anymore that even these subtle joints would not strong enough

after my bad experience with tamiya epoxy on my Fw-189 build (good for smaller parts), I did some strength test with Stearman upper wing and it didnt break at all.

here is the upper wing ready to paint. Five times I had to sand the wing and fill all small bubles which started to appear.

Hi Jan,

Always liked this model with the exception of the misshapen and too small diameter fuselage. Not sure how easy it would be to fix either. Another issue is the missing Tail Wheel locking leavers in the cockpits, but they could be scratch built.

I will keep watching though.

As an aside, and I know I joined this too late, but the internal colour of the linen is not green. It is normally a lighter shade of what ever the primer coat was. The long flat boards are actually varnished wood as well.

thanks guys for kind words

Steve, thanks for your comments, too late for interior but realy apreciate

to be honest, Im not river counter, no Stearman specialist and before I bought this kit I read 2 web reviews and didnt find evidence of any fit issues, so I didn`t care.

regarding interior, this is fast OOB build for me so I didnt get any special reference, only pictures available on web, mostly warbirds photos

I saw different colours of linen, but was not sure if its correct so I followed kit instructions.

Do you have any good advices regarding exterior pls?

thanks for looking

Hi Jan,

I have never built this kit, and in all the reviews I have seen there have not been any problems with the fit of parts mentioned. What I meant was that the shape of the completed kit fuselage is wrong, and I would expect it to be quite hard to correct. I have not seen a completed one that looks right, and here in Australia these kits are rare and very very expensive, which is why I have not got one. $300 plus for a kit I have to do major surgery on? I don't think so.

Steve

Keep up the good work.
