Soviet Me-262 in Blue?

Howdy Gang,

I'm thinking about building a postwar Me-262. I found a well done profile. I like it, but I think it is inaccurate. Is anyone aware of a blue Soviet Me-262? I'm sure the green profile is closer to the truth.

Thanks!

Brent

Correct or not. I like the blue one more.

Ditto.

I have a no crooked cross policy so the blue Me-262 with Soviet stars is turning my stashed one into a prospective build.

Here is the film of the Russian's flight testing it. Best  you can say is (at least this particular machine) is an overall upper solid colour and lower lighter. Lower is probably blue, but upper, your guess is as good as mine. Pick one you like from the realms of possibility; either a soviet or Luftwaffe upper surface colour and go with it.

Brent,

262 camouflage is always a topic for loosing brain-cells.

By my many years of research ... my experiences has been to find differences in Black and white tone and detail.

Try researching uncamouflaged 262's late -war .... and you will see what I mean!

Though I like the 'Blue' Russian 262 ... by my understanding - they only tested one 262 and the pilot nearly died, trying to come out of a dive.

There seems to be 2 clues here...

Firstly , the aircraft was captured intact at Prague airfield... and , (like the Americans and British) ... they would have only painted over the cross with their national insignia... so in all likelihood... the standard colors would still be left..

The Allies were more interested in finding out more about the new technologies to be found in the 262 , than to give it a new coat of paint!

One thing I find interesting from the video clip , is that the color over the entire top of the fuselage and wings seem to be of one uniform color tone!

There is no splinter camouflage of the usual 2 colors... Which tells me that it may seem to have a new coat of paint - or at least, all over the top surfaces.

The 2 white square Symbol/ stencils at the bottom of the gun bay cover would be there in it's original form of German markings which (I would think) the Russians would over- spray. .... but, it is still there!... So this tells me original paint.

There appears to be German mechanic with the Russian pilot - so maybe the German personel maintained it for the New Russian owners ....so maybe the German mechanics resprayed some parts of the topside airframe ...which would logically be German paints - that were at hand...

So my logical brain tells me it was probably be RLM 82 or 83 Green.

Secondly... the artwork hasn't depicted the engine cowlings correctly.. so (to my mind) ....if this detail is incorrect .. how could the rest of the scheme be?

That's my 2 Rubels worth.

Budski!

Phil

Appears to have been repainted, my guess would Russian topside green with underside blue. It does carry a light sheen found on most Russian WWII aircraft?

Just my guess as to the Russians would want to ellininate as much German look as possible...

And there is no blotch ing around were the German national insignia would have been applied?

If you have checked all your sources you have access to, and none can give you a definitive answer on the right colours, my approach would be to go for the scheme you like better. Shall others prove you wrong, if they have nothing better to do, its still your model and you have to like it! :)

Well, if it was repainted, it probably would have been in late war Soviet colors which would be Soviet grey, which was a cool grey which could take on a bluish tone. Me thinks you have defensible options! Do what you want and let the naysayers prove you wrong.
