Eduard Bf-109

Well Gents, with Revell's Bf-109 G-10 Erla done and me still in the 109-mood, I wanted to give an early type a go: an E-4. I had an Eduard kit in the stash with lot's of decals and p.e. parts in it. This is my 3rd 109, the first being Hasegawa's K-4, the second Revell's G-10.

I went pretty fast on it, and I have to say, the details and the fit of this kit are impressive. The i.p. is really great. I didn't need any putty and before I knew it, I started painting it.

Here are some photos of it so far:

Here it is, with some camo on it. Keeping it clean (at the moment) because I'm building one of Galland's E-4's and I guess they were kept in quite a good condition.

The photographer (from Bronco) recording the progress in this build takes a closer look at the i.p. and cockpit. Great out of box, pretty cool!

In an earlier attempt to build this kit, I painted the engine cover yellow, but that, I'll have to do over later ... The green paint is done, still have to do the grey though!

Because it is a great fit, it was a quick build so far. I didn't build the engine, I'm keeping that for another model.

And the photographer takes another shot of this soon to be E-4. Next will be grey paint, some extra mottle, a little post shading and clear. I hope the decals will go on fine... I'll keep you posted!

Thanks for watching !

Thanks for stopping by, gents! I've put the decals on - always a moment of stress - but they worked perfectly. A little decal setting and they went right into every panel line and rivet. With a little varnish on it, they look just like they are painted on!

Here's the result:

I did a little weathering, but not too much, this one was probably well maintained. Still too clean in a few areas of course, I have to spray the exhaust stains and darken some panels.

I filled the panel lines with brown and black water colours. I have to do that a little more on the yellow parts.

I repainted the yellow parts but I still have to paint the rudder partly RLM 76 and put the victory markings on it.

Next will be the landing gear, prop, guns and all the other small details.

Surprising thing about this E-4 is that it actually has a larger wingspan than the late war 109's. I wasn't expecting that.

So, on to the details now. Hope you like the progress.

Nice looking 109!

Wow, three in a row.........................Im not sure I could do that even if it was my favorite air-frame of all time in 32nd.

I really do like the crisp paint and mottling, as it gives the model a nice used but not torn up look.

Well done!

They are Matt, they really are! The thing is: many brands have nice kits of the 109 and with a lot of info and liveries available, you can build quite a few of them in a short time. And they don't take too much space for a 1/32 kit.

I've looked at your E-4 Roy, very nice way back into the hobby! I guess the He-111 is a much bigger challenge, right?

With this one almost done, I've started yet another one (I know ...). I'll start a new topic for that one.

Thanks for stopping by everyone!

Nic, indeed the Heinkel is a much larger project. Months vs years.

Looking at your 109, I can already see some details and things that are done better than on mine. Can't wait to see it come to life even more.

Do you happen to have interior pics?

A little more done at this E-4; landing gear is done, exhaust is done and some additional weathering too. Oh, and the prop is painted. All that is left is the canopy, the special gunsight and some other little stuff that usually takes me a lot of time to do...

Here is a shot of the landing gear:

I like the way they turned out. I might add some mud to them, what do you think?

I also painted part of the rudder and put the decal with the victory markings on.

I tried to make a close-up of the cockpit for Roy (hopelijk heb je hier iets aan...) but I didn't make any photos of the cockpit during construction. I was a bit impatient to start painting the kit.

The spinner and the prop fit really good. Just a little weathering and oil here. I hope it looks realistic. I still have to do the guns and the canopy.

And here is an overall shot of Galland's E-4 at this moment. I guess next week I'll have her finished.
