Just finished watching the Flory models review of the AK Interactive Xtreme metals paint , and it looks very promising. Ive been using the Alclad II paints myself, but Im wondering if anyones used both and could say which you like better? should I invest in getting the AK paints?

No Way .. I'm not a foil guy and never will be.

I've used Alclad's for years and nowI lean towards AK. It seems a bit more forgiving, and bit more durable. I never had a single problem with either, shoot one on top of the other and again no problems. I mask on top, no problems with paint lifting, decal on top and never, ever use sealer on either.

Ive been using Alclad, but since its not good to apply laquer over enamel..(or is it vice versa)  then I saw these and they did appear to be more durable. I appreciate your comment on them , and with your results, think I'll give em a try

I'm not sure I buy in to the theory of not being able to shoot lacquers on top on any particular type or brand of paint. I have been pretty much a acrylic guy since coming back to the hobby 8 years ago and now shoot a lot of MRP paint. I really haven't had a lot of experience shooting lacquers of enamels thsi time around but if the paint it thoroughly dry, air brushing on a lacquer, shouldn't effect anything.

For decades way back when, I use to use Model Master Enamels and always shoot Glosscote on top which is a lacquer and no problems to report.

Just think way too much is put on what can be shot on top of what, as it's all technique and making sure the bottom layers of paint are completely dry.

Just my two cents worth.

I did have a reaction one time ,I like to use the Alclad dull coat ,cause it gives that perfect dull look without having to use the rattle can MM dull. I dont remember what it was I applied it over, but it made it sticky.

thanks Kev for that .. I wonder, watching the Flory video, he mentions that AK had sent out a bad batch of some of their products, and I think he was refering to this stuff..is it possible you received the bad batch since you got them when they first came out?

also, just to mention, I was going to buy some now ,and try them out, which I ran across this ebay listing (hope its ok to link) but they were so cheap I couldnt resist..$10 for 5 of them!

Unlike my brother I've been a Alcad 2 guy since they came out.  I don't know where you heard that you can't shoot Alcad's over enamels which are mineral spirit based, but their Gloss Black is mineral Spirit based, so it's in the enamel family. The issue is drying time. Enamels take longer then Acrylics or Lacquers to dry and cure. In humid weather conditions we're talking days to a week or more.

- Right on the money.

The initial batch of AK metallizers were the one that had problems and none should be arround. I actually had four bd bottles, sent an email to AK and they were replaced on the spot. O three the offending ones out. The key when air brushing any two dissimilar paints one on top of the other, is the base/under paint has to be completely dry. Also, the top coat paint needs to go on in light layers.

Last night I saw a Molotow chrome pen demonstrated. It was the most amazing thing.  Apparently you can get a refill and use an airbrush to spray it (admittedly at a price, but.....)

Could be a good no fuss option for the non foilers?
