Which Spit?

I'm a little undecided what to do. My choices are a Mk II from the Revell kit, as RY:F of 313 (Czech) Sqn, or a Tamiya VIII, probably as a SEAC example. The Revell Mk II os slightly started in that I've removed the fuselage and wing parts from the sprues and made a start on sanding the odd bulges identified by Iain in his build earlier this year - hope this qualifies as < 25% started.

Question is which? Thoughts please?

Hi Mike,

That's an interesting conundrum. I think it depends on what type of build you're looking for.

For a straight forward project that will virtually fall together and look beautiful straight out of the box, go for any of Tamiya's recent releases.

If you want to have to do some work and add aftermarket for accuracy then the Revell wins hands down.

Since they are both in the stash the money side of things is not an issue.

If I were facing your decision I'd go with Tamiya every day.

HTH

Cheers.

Thanks Gents.  DonH, I like the logic, but perhaps not both at the same time, so I may well start with the II.  As geedubelyer rightly points out, both are in the stash, but I do need to order up some Montex Masks for the VIII, so I guess that's made the decision.

Of course, a VII would be a relatively simple conversion from an VIII, given that the kit has the extended wingtips as an option iirc.

So suddenly I've got two kits and three options, and that's without the other Tamiya (IX) in the loft ...

Martin, Thanks for posting.  It's not that particular RY:F I'm planning, it's P7834 as flown by (then) Fg Off Frantisek Fajtl.  But thanks, inspiration indeed.

I think the first decision is made - start with the II - but nothing more's going to happen for a bit as before this GB came up I've said I'll finish all (well, OK, at least one of) my works in progress before I start anything else.  There's a 1:48 Do 215 in the paint shop atm, hoping to finish before New Year.  So watch this space ...

Hello Mike.

Watching the space and wondered how you were getting along with this unusual choice.

It will be nice to see a different color scheme form another Country.

Good luck and please post your pictures soon..Love to see what you have done..

Thank you

Hi Maru, and thanks for your interest.  I made the choice, and here it is.  http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=59953&hl=

You've actually reminded me I need to get back to it, as when I went looking for it I was surprised how far down the search results it was.  It's been on a bit of pause while I did a review of something else (non-LSP) for a mag, but that's neary done now, and I have managed to do a little bit here and there in the meantime.
