Hacker
The Airfix 190A is without its problems. Though nicely molded and the surface details are great some of the physical details need addressing. OK from nose to tail here we go Engine assembly .... Overall it has great details and the BMW 801 radial engine is a kit in itself but overall its 5mm too long to fit the cowling properly. extending the nose 5mm is an option but scale wise the model is spot on from what l can deduce so l will either have to trim 5mm off the engine bearers or from the cooling fan or split the difference. l am sorting that out at the moment Engine panel covers.... Though separate items there is no structural details to these so l will have to add this as well Fire wall....The fire wall has to go. the ammo boxes, the wing spar and the fire wall are one piece affair which does not do the whole thing justice when you have it expose. so new fire wall has to be build with the wing spar and the ammo boxes separate items The cockpit .... sad sad sad total modification of the existing part or replacement here. Haven't decided which but l am leaning towards the first. the features are too toyish but l have to admit the seat is a very good representation which l will use Instrument panel .... Its OK to use if you are doing a standard version of the A but seeing this is going to be a R11 l will have to modify the panel to incorporate the radar screen Wheel wells ....like where are they? l get the perforated sections at the center and the wing spar the that's it. l will have to build this area incorporating the kit parts with new scratch build parts. the landing gear seems to be OK though in need of detailing but man the covers are so wrong these will have to be either modified or replaced Wing cannon bay .... You get a very nice MG151 here for the cannon bays but that's it total absence of any other details. this will have to rectified too with scratch build details. The covers are separate items but they also lack details so this l will have to add as well here Landing flaps.... They are molded into the lower wing so these will have to be cut out and the whole thing will have to be detailed Rear fuselage....lack of any detail which is OK if you build OBB but l am opening up the access panel on the side so this will area will be detailed with scratch build items. the bottom hatch is missing here as well so this will have to be scratch build and the hole for the stand will have to be filled in Vertical tail .... l am opening up this panel as well so the same goes for it too fortunately the kit comes with a very detailed tail wheel so some of my work is already done These are the problems l have identified at the moment but l am sure that during the build others will appear. l have started with the fire wall and will post progress in a few days so stay tuned ( also working on two other projects as well)
CharlesMetz
Rear fuselage....lack of any detail which is OK if you build OBB but l am opening up the access panel on the side so this will area will be detailed with scratch build items. the bottom hatch is missing here as well so this will have to be scratch build and the hole for the stand will have to be filled in I've always felt that the cross-section of the kit's fuselage is a bit too rectangular just ahead of the tail. Does anyone else have an opinion on this? Charles Metz

Hacker
Wow, ambitous project!Jerry Rutman has some resin for this kit including cockpit, FYI. l see that but l decided to go scratch build here. so the hacking begins first off we marked off in pencil what we intend to remove here we have cut off an extra panel on the nose and opened the panels for the rear fuselage and the vertical stabilizer We also at this time marked out were the access panel on the lower rear fuselage is suppose to be and cut this out as well
Hacker
On the lower wing half l marked off the flaps that need to be cut out and the nose panels as well so there is the lower wing as it stands now. l am currently in to process of making a new fire wall and starting the process of redoing the cockpit so stay tune

Hacker
Well yes we are mad and l will tell you why l had a look at the cockpit and decided to toss the thing it was just not working for me neither was the firewall. so l toss the cockpit and l cut the ammo boxes off the fire wall and toss it too. At this time too l decided to toss the upper gun deck as well
Hacker
In with the new scratchbuild cockpit and fire wall. l kept the back of the kit part but l cut the center of out it and glued it to the new cockpit. l kept the seat and the joystick. this is how much l got done so far. l think it is a vast improvement on the old one. Need some more detail work but hey thats half the fun here all for now later
Hacker
just some last minute pictures before bed of what l have done since my last posting
Hacker
Here is the instructions for the wheel wells on the kit. Showing you the instructions is much easier here. As you note not much details is there. So l been building new wheel wells using the kit wing spar and the perforated inserts
Hacker
Here is the replacement wheel well in the process of being build. Once done it should be a much better item then what you get in the kit.. Still have some more detailing to do but we are just about here with it well thats all for now later
