This project has been ongoing for two years and is the result of three peoples passion for the Fokker DVII.

The arrival of the sublime Wingnut Wings family of kits at last gave WW1 modellers the kit this iconic aircraft deserves but years ago I met someone on the Aerodrome forum, Beto Lacalle from Spain, who's dream it was to scratch build a large model to museum quality. He had CAD drawn (a new art in those days) many elements and was attempting a hand carved propeller but with no particular sense of urgency... With the dissolution of that forum we lost touch.

Since the formation of my company and my partnership with Harry Green nine years ago, the DVII has always been on our minds and so I decided to track down Beto again and see if he'd be interested in applying his knowledge and talents to the project. Did he?.....!

Soon a plan was made to "dovetail" elements into the existing Wingnuts kit and allow modellers to buy any section they wished - or all, of course - cannibalising a £45 kit the only hurdle to mentally get over!

A battle damaged aileron, a tatty rudder or a complete "souveniered" diorama or capture scene would be possible - post war Armistice rulings targeted the destruction of all DVII types specifically.....remember all those spare propellers, engine blocks, Spandaus in the WNW kits.....what a tempting thought! Not to mention if the idea took off the other kits could have the same treatment, giving the modeller opportunities only previously available to master scratch builders....

Initial 3D printed trials were very encouraging but we have been following other leads and hope to have something truly spectacular to offer soon...

Here's the project so far....as always with Aviattic projects - please express your interest to me either here or by email

sales@aviattic.co.uk

All interested parties will be first to be offered pre-sales offers and "specials"..

Wow, this is not only ambitious, but highly unexpected! The parts so far look really good.

Thankyou, Kev - they will be supplemented with photo etch cable pulleys and brackets, strut plates, templates for "saw tooth" leading edge sheathing, RB Productions beautiful radiator "honeycomb" grills, Gaspatch Spandaus, mid and late period, cockpit instruments from Aviattic and Taurus Models....even 0.05mm copper foil and white backed "lozenge" decals to achieve "inside and outside" renderings of the partial covering patterned linen!

Basically a menu created to put together your ideal build...got someone working on one as we speak! Stay tuned!

Regards, Richard

Wow, that is some truly spectacular engineering!   I can really appreciate all the work that must have gone into this just to get things to this point.  Cant wait to see more!

Hello Richard,

Whilst WW1 subjects are not my forte nor primary interest I am fascinated by this approach. I can see how kits like this could easily become popular and I wish you the best of luck with your venture. The painted and rigged example shown above looks superb.

How I wish someone with this amount of passion would come forth to tackle more contemporary subjects.

Excellent stuff.

Cheers.

Spanish modeller and Scalemodelworld Gold medal winner 2014 and 2015 Chema Martinez with a 1/32 Wingnut Wings Fokker DVII front fuselage married to Aviattic stripped fuselage, wing and tail elements...

A concept still in development for sale in 2016
