Talk of the An-22 always reminds me of this video of one being delivered to the Technik Museum Speyer. I bet you felt the go around as much a heard it.

[ yt ]-[/media ]

There is an An-22 in my stash for one of those future builds.

what's amazing is that it's normally an aerodrome (notice the name "aerodrome"...?) used by lesser "gods" like us with Cessnas or Pipers or what have you, and all of a sudden this mammoth is actually landing with room to spare.......

We flew into Speyer several times, and i must say it's impressive to see what is on display, not only the AN22, but also a 1:1 B747 placed on a "stand" right on a kind of baseleg for their runway........

Anyone can get into a strip, but more often than not, if they need to leave, it's on a the back of a flatbed.

I'd like to see the flatbed that carries a AN22.....probably it exists....

Jack, over time, you could carry it out in a lunchpail if you had a big enough Sawzall and a cutting torch.

I had a professor at Embry-Riddle who flew a C-130 into a strip in Vietnam that he couldn't fly it out of.  They had to helicopter a Sea Bee bulldozer and crew in to extend the runway.

A C-130 was a bit expensive to consign to nature
