Wingnut Jasta 5 Quartet

Its been a while since I have ready posted anything... Life is busy with work and family, as I am sure most of you are familiar with. I have been working on WNW's Jasta 5 Albatros over the last 2 weeks, when I get a spare moment in the evenings. I also raided another kit for another set of sprues as there are 4 schemes that I am waiting to do out of the 11 provided in the kit.

Schemes that I am doing are -

Albatros D.V 2065~17, Richard Flashar (2 victories) July 1917 & Hans Joachim von Hippel (2 victories), February 1918, Jasta 5 (Red Dragon)

Albatros D.V Stallion Jasta 5, July 1917

Albatros D.V, Ltn Wolf, Jasta 5, July 1917 (2 victories) (Blue & White Diamonds)

Albatros D.V Gauntlet, Richard Flashar, Jasta 5, April-May 1918 (2 victories)

Currently this is where I am, post I have a lot of other parts cleaned up ready for primer and paint, hopefully that will be done tomorrow morning when I have a few hours to myself.

Hi Dave,

This is the aproach I have thought about, one point that had concerned me was keeping track of each airframe. Is there much difference between each marking options in build steps / colour call outs etc? And how are your organising your builds?

Aside from that I'm super excited to watch these come together!!!!  :frantic:

Keeping track is pretty easy for this one. Its not the first time I have tackled multiple builds at the same time. All of them are pretty much the same up till schemes really. Wings are the same, a part from one being covered in Lozenge. There will be some small things like windscreens that will be different, but they will be fitted  towards the end.

If they were quite different I would wrap tape around the tail and then write on the scheme letter on it.

Managed to get in front of an airbrush this afternoon. It didn't start off well with the airbrush nozzle snapping off after I dismantled it for a clean. Lucky I own a couple of other airbrushes!

All the small items are mostly painted, just need hand paint the straps and brackets on some parts. I have been using Mr Paint and Mr Color for everything so far, bar the interior green which is Tamiya.

I should be able to find some time this week to start getting everything into sub assemblies. But man there are a lot of parts!

Jeez Dave, slow down mate! My final three Trio boxes (... six total...) will land by Tuesday but I want to try and finish some other shelf-of-doom wnw kits before jumping headfirst into building a metric crap-ton of Albatrosse

  • 2 weeks later...

Time for another small update...

Most of the interior is complete. Only need to sort the harness out, but somehow my lighter has gone walking. I guessing it wasn't put back after someone grabbed it for to light candles for a B'day cake a while ago. So I can't anneal the harness at the moment, so that is my only delay.

Mr Paint Ochre & Red Wood colours were used with AK Interactive Mud washes for the wood grains, and Tamiya XF-76 for interior green.

I am hoping to hit the four engines this week, and picking up a couple of lighters today so I can start closing up the fuselages in the weekend. Would be really nice if I can start getting some paint on the exterior soon.
