Revell Mosquito Pr Mk. XVI

My contribution to Jurassic Plastic - the venerable Revell Mosquito Mk. IV. According to Scalemates the first release of the kit was 1971 and I can remember getting one as a 7 or 8 year old back then. I have built a few more over the years but I've wanted to do a PR Mk. XVI in American markings for a few years. This group build seemed to be the perfect time!

Kit in box (this is a more recent boxing):

And the AM to make the PR Mk. XVI:

2-stage Merlin cowl conversion from Grey Matter Figures and cockpit upgrades from ProfiModeller.

Additional cockpit details from Eduard - I plan to mix and match with the PM set, seat belts from HGW, vacu-form canopy from Tasman, decals from Ventura and wheels from Eduard.

Let the fun begin!

It'll be interesting to see how this develops Mark, I don't know the kit at all but you've got some good looking after market bits to use, though of course you can't possibly use those seatbelts because thet were ONLY fitted on Spitfires!!!!! :) :) (or so HGW would have us believe?)

I got impatient cuz the Mosquito belts were out of stock everywhere, so I figured I could make do. Improvise, adapt, overcome!

I'm sure that most seat belts were generic and not as specific as HGW would have us believe Mark, probably helps their sales though!

Shhhh, strictly between us two Mark, my Typhoon's belts are Spitfire ones too! :)

I agree!

Back to work, except not. I started by cleaning up some of the bigger pieces, old molds with lots of flash but after cleanup the big pieces do seem to fit better than expected. Checked references, browsed through my Tamiya manual to compare cockpits vs. the mash-up of Revell parts, PM and Eduard AM to see what's what.

Then I discovered that the first episode of The Grand Tour was available, so I've been glued to the laptop/TV for the evening. Jeremy, Richard and James are off to a great start!

Back to the Mossie tomorrow.

Good luck with this.  Hope you'll be doing one with D-Day stripes, even though you'll have to forego a coloured tail: D-Day stripes over PRU Blue has to be one of my favourite schemes for any aeroplane. (Or at least Mosquitoes and Spitfires.)
