imatt88
Hey all, Is there any place I can go to sort out all the many variants of Spits that our out in 32nd scale? It's mind boggling trying to keep track of all the versions. I also noticed that there are many conversion sets available to help the modeler build Spits that have never been kitted before... How do you keep track of all these Spitfires? Cheers, Ian Edited September 26, 2017 by imatt88
thierry laurent
Hi, For the plastic options: http://www.largescaleplanes.com/kitdb/list.php?act=search&plane=spitfire&scale=32 For the conversions, well, just ask! imatt88
Over on ARC, I saw a thread for a Belgian Spitfire Mk XIVc being built. It was really cool and I'd like to build one in 32nd scale, Here is why I started this thread, to build a MK XIVc, what would I use as a base kit, and what conversion could I use? Cheers, Ian
Kagemusha
PCM did a MkXIV kit. LSP_K2
imatt88
I saw the PCM Spit on eBay. Looks like a nice kit. Does anyone make Belgain Air Force decals in 32nd? Edited September 27, 2017 by imatt88
thierry laurent
Not as far as I know. DACO made a terrific 1/48th set but alas never enlarged it. However keep in mind you can use RAF roundel masks. You just have to change the colors and for the codes cutting oneself some in Tamiya masking tape is not that difficult. Another easy point is the fact our Spits normally had no specific unit marking. Hth Thierry LSP_K2
thierry laurent
Bear in mind that a large percentage of that list is the same basic kit in different boxes. There really aren't that many, and some of what there are are really not worthy of much notice these days. Well you have three kit families from Revell, one from Hasegawa, one from Tamiya, one from Hobbyboss and two from PCM. And very frankly all of them are still good kits. So the choice is not that limited. The only one I would not get anymore is the Hasegawa Mk. V. The old Revell/Matchbox kit is a dog but there is no other option for late Griffon birds. Add to this a handful of resin kits covering rare birds (such as the prototype, the speed spitfire, the spiteful and seafang) and the conversions (early seafires, Mk XII, PR XI, FR 17, FR 47, etc.) and nearly all marks can be built from the prototype to the seafang! MikeC
If money is no object, then a Tamiya VIII is possibly your best starting point for a Mk XIV, as the XIV was basically a Griffon-engined VIII. Paragon did a Mk XIV conversion for the Hasegawa Vb, you'd not use all of it, but one day I might get around to breaking out my copies and having a go - providing the fit looks reasonable. Watch this space but don't hold your breath. Grey Matter do a lot of conversions for other variants, you may want to check them out. https://www.greymatterfigures.com/category/news/ The ghost of Edgar Brookes is smiling...... Yes indeed ... Tony T
Think I might treat myself to a Tamiya Spitty this Xmas. Tony

Indeed but wih a different tail as well...! That is why, to me, if available, the PCM option stays the best one.
MikeC
True Thierry, although the Paragon kit does include the fin/rudder. Edited September 27, 2017 by MikeC

The XIV is still available and is being cleared out by PCM: http://www.pacmodelscatalog.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PCM&Product_Code=PCM+32015&Category_Code=pcm I've picked up a couple to use as a base for a XIX and 21.
