Revell Phantom in German colours

Well, this is the second strike of my modelling plans for this year. I want to try to get 3 LSP kits ready, to compensate for having nothing finished the last years. Well, had a hard time IRL, so please blame my boss.

I was able to get a Revell F-4F in a sealed box. Lcky shot, given that this kit has been oop for ages. Now I have to confess that I have no clue about the Phantom beside its existence. But we have no at our museums collection, so there is the chance to add one in Bundeswehr colours.

I know about the tweak list here. I will look for Haralds replacement nose, SAC or G-factor UC legs and intake covers. Beisde this I have to have a look at the cockpit parts to consider what will be appropriate for this area. I have no idea about camo and markings. Suggestions are welcome. I will also have a look at some modelling pages to look for an outfit I like.

We shall see, as the zen-teacher said :-)

Regards!

No, sorry. First is the Junkers for the multi-wing GB, then the soviet GB (kit not yet specified), last in the line will be the Phantom. At least I have ordered SAMs Phantom book, part 3: "Foreign users" to get a clue what a Phantom is and how the model should look like ;)

Whoa, Hannats delivers very quick! Got the SAM book and had a look at the German chapter. I guess I will go with Legends cockpit, AMS nose and Flightpaths upgrade set. This will add the needed u/c legs, nozzles, FOD covers and a lot of gimmicks for the exterior, at least in theory. Any opinions about the british product?

Colourwise I tend towards the plain lizard look, aka Norm 72 splinter camo. Ugly, but the outfit of a true workhorse. Maybe with some maneuver markings to add some splashes of bright colour for the audience.

I am a novice in regards of the Phantom, so any helpful advise would be welcome.

The Flightpath set is impressive to say the least!

In fact, currently, it is one of the best solutions to update the Revell kit.

Many small parts are terrific and will noticeably update the kit. However, some parts cannot be used as such or ask for a tremendous work to get a correct result. For instance, the whole titanium area behind the exhaust is given as one photoetched part. Even if you anneal it, giving to this part a double curvature is nearly impossible. Even if it is not a funny job, it is far easier to improve the plastic area with a scriber and a beading tool... Similarly, I'm wondering if the main LG bays are really useful? The front one is a gem but using it with a resin pit is not obvious... The intake plugs are fat too flat to be useful. etc. etc. I'm surely not saying the set is useless. However, I think that some parts (more particularly the large ones) are not really useful as such. It as not a panacea as everything (think curves) cannot be accurately made from photoetched parts.

BTW, you can look at the set contents on Flightpath website. Note that initial version has less parts (in my set, I do not have the flares/chaff launchers, nor the Sidewinder launcher parts).

Thank you for the reply! Well, given that verdict about the large parts I think I should stay away. Maybe the Aires nozzles, Quickboost covers, SAC uc legs and some Eduard PE will be the better (i. e. much more buildable) way to get proper results.

Kind regards!
