Craig Abrahamson
How does the Hasegawa F-18 compare with the new Academy version w/800 parts ( at twice the price )....is it worth the extra $$ ?
jbrundt
No comparison. The Hase version is a pre-production model that would need significant mods to bring it up to 'A' model standards and major surgery to elevate it to 'C' model specs. IIRC the Hase kit has raised panel lines while the Academy kit is all recessed. The weapons load you get with the Academy version is well worth the price. The price tag may seem steep but it will be coming down. Lucky Model was selling them for $69 and Hobby Lobby has half off coupons from time to time. I bet if you wait a bit the price will level off to around $80. I picked mine up from e-Hobbyland for $95 shipped. I consider it a great value. This is one awesome kit. Just the other night I was looking over the sprues again and impressed with the level of detail. The instruction book is well done, the decal sheet is HUGE and the metal parts are very nicely done. The main gear alone is a work of art. I had a chance to get a Hase F-18 with the Paragon set last year. I'm glad I passed and waited for the Academy becuase it would have been wasted money and a lot of extra work. I could go on but I think you get the idea. Go buy one, NOW! sinuhe
No comparison - the Hase kit is over 20 odd years old - the Academy is a cutting edge modern kit - one of the best I have ever seen. Furthermore, the Hase represents a pre-production machine....
J. Cunningham
Buy the Academy. Much better, no aftermarket is REQUIRED..although you can if you want. This is the best thing I've seen molded in 32nd yet! Well worth the money. My 2 cents, JC Austin, Texas
