BloorwestSiR
When this GB first started, Ernie (Clunkmeister) asked me what I was planning to build. After some back and forth where I finally admitted to having never built a biplane, he graciously offered me a Silver Wings Hawker Hart kit gratis so i could participate. Wait, you're wondering that's not a Hart. Long story short, the Hart has taken a bit of a detour through our postal system. Going on Ernie's suggestions i picked up this kit as a placeholder and more importantly, something to cut my teeth on. So this build is to celebrate the friendships that i have formed on here and in particular, the generosity of its members. When Wrong Way Corrigan, err the Hart finally shows up, I'll start a new WIP for that. Thanks Ernie! More to come. LSP_Mike
An excellent kit! Ernie is OK, for a Texan/Canadian spy...... BloorwestSiR and Shaka HI

BloorwestSiR
So, here's a bit of a start. I've tried using the RB wood grain mask on the framing. It seemed to work OK. Some paint on the IP. The instruments are decals so those will be next. And the first parts together. So far, so good. I'm going to try rigging the control lines next. Out2gtcha
Great start on a GREAT little kit. Just watch out for the optical sight. It actually mounts to the upper wing, but must be ran through the windscreen which is attached to the upper fuselage. BloorwestSiR
LSP_Kevin
Looks good, Carl! I have one of those woodgrain templates from Radu, but have yet to use it in anger. Looks like it would be a little tricky to use in small spaces and on curved shapes. Kev BloorwestSiR

I'll make sure to keep an eye out for it when I get that far.

The template was a bit tricky to hold in place so I used a stand to hold the frame and then held the template over it. I wasn't completely flush in a lot of places but there instructions say that's fine. I'll see if I can get some better pics later.
BloorwestSiR
So, here's my try at using EZ line. I threaded it through the loops moulded into the base of the foot pedals and then through the brace under the fuel tank. It was definitely fiddly but not as bad as I had expected. Famous last words. You can also make out the painted grain on the floor boards. Now back to my son's Halloween costume. BloorwestSiR
Well, I got the rest of the cockpit together. It was a bit of a challenge getting all the different members lined up but I did it. Next up are the machine guns. Shaka HI
I agree..very crispy clean and I bet if you could eat it, it'd be very crunchy.
BloorwestSiR
Thanks John and Shaka! Not sure I'd eat it though. The nutritional value can't be that good. A slight bit of progress in between getting my son's costume together. I started painting they inner walls of the fuselage. I wonder if this shows the word grain effect any better versus the framing. Shaka HI
Very convincing. What does this wood grain template look like?
mozart
Excellent work as usual Carl, the wood graining is very effective and I just love the Sopwith Snipe, need to get one myself before too long for my 56 squadron series. Max
