Hi, folks. To this GB I will doing the F4U-4 Trumpeter.

It's a good kit, but I ever prefer to do a little updatings, so I will use some afters in this project.

The Plane to be represented is one Honduras F4U-4, involved directly in the last dogfight made by a Corsair.

They are involved in the Soccer war, the war enter Honduras against El Salvador, when at least 3 Salvadoran corsairs are took down by Honduren Corsairs.

This is the object of the project:

Whatever you do, Paulo, don't use those Aires wheel bays! They don't fit, and will bring you to tears. I wish I hadn't bothered with them on my Corsair, and certainly wouldn't do it again!

Kev

Really, I remember your troubles with these in your kit. Anyway we can always use the original trumpeter Wheel Bay.

Very thanks for the advice! This Aires set was developed for the revell kit. Not a surprise that it does not fit into the Trumpeter one.

Cheers, Paulo.

Really? I wasn't aware of that. The box for mine says "...for Trumpeter kit". Perhaps just a change in the text when the Trumpeter kit was released? They fit the shape of the opening quite well, but are way too deep to fit inside the wing cavity.

I'm curious to try the wheel bays on my Revell kit now, but I suspect the result wouldn't be any different.

Kev

I could do this test, Kev. I made some copies of the set, and I have one Revell kit. Oh, By thew way, I resolved to get some measures on the set, and concluded that it  have a possibility to fits in the wing of my kit. Don't forget that my kit is an F4U-4, with differences between the F4U1D, that you used.

So I proceed to try, and at least in my kit the wheel bay fits. Not without some adjustments, but fits very better than yours.

Let me make some pics of the parts dryfitted, and you could judge by yourself.

Cheers, Paulo.

Here, the pics that I promised. Keep in mind thast all the parts are dryfitted, except the resin bays, that was glued in the corners to the wing, to be easy to be removed if it necessary.

Sorry for the little hole. this was caused by a dremel slip. If the repair get ugly, I will replace the part by one of the copies I made in resin.

I've cutted off the front part of the bay, because, as I said, this set was developed for the Revell kit. With the cut, I can use the original undercarriage hole. When I return to this part in the assembly, I will close the part by scratch.

This is a picture comparing the Kevin Plane with mine.

This part was solved. Now be back to the beggining.

Well, that's excellent work, Paulo! You were clearly willing to take the thinning further than I was. If I'd made a hole like that, I probably would have thrown the part away. Can't way to see more!

Kev

I made the thinning as long as I could. After I reach the limits, and certainly passed by them, I tried to sand the outer part of the set. This solved the trouble. I will replace the part damaged, and will do the sanding with more care in the next try.

Thanks, for your words.

Cheers, Paulo

Great work so far!   Yes, it seems like a LOT of those Aires well kits dont fit into their intended kits. Same as I found on my Trumpeter SU-30 MKK. I could very easily see through the well after sanding and cutting to make it fit inside the well.

Looking forward to more!
