New question on Phantom armament:

In the photos below, what is the object between the AIM-4(D, I believe) missile and the inboard pylon? Is it specifically for mounting the AIM-4? It's new one to me.

A/C are from the 13th FS 432 TRW out of Udorn in 1967-68.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

P.S.: Note strike camera under stbd. wing/fuselage join on 714 & 721. Also, looks like additional ECM pod mounted centerline on 721.

Best Regards,

Hi!

You're right: AIM-4 Falcon missiles used a specific mounting.

I've somewhere a good picture of this mounting under the inboard pylon of a ...Japanese F-4EJ!

Would love to see that picture! Thanks, Thierry.

Me too Thierry, I've been looking for a good photo of the AIM-4 Adapter.

From my above post:

"P.S.: Note strike camera under stbd. wing/fuselage join on 714 & 721. Also, looks like additional ECM pod mounted centerline on 721."

Thanks to the sharp eyes of LSP member Tony T, the "ECM pod" mounted on the centerline rack is actually an empty MER. I happily stand corrected. This is an excellent example of why LSP so great!

Best Regards,
