Now, we go topside and try our hand at the Khaki olive painted top surfaces. The RNAS did NOT use the RFC standard PC10 or PC12 pigmented varnishes, instead, they used green paint.
So we play.....

Hmmm... Experiments.
The horizontal looks great, but the vertical has an odd discoloration in this pic that is not apparent to the naked eye...
I think I'll recover the fin. Something has some odd shadows...
Maybe an unbonded decal?

Sorry for the dust. My pics are usually "on the fly".

Well my friend, thank you. I have already stripped the fin and will recover it tonight. It looks great, just not what I expect. Word to the wise: Do NOT skimp on the clear gloss with these decals. They need it and they need the undersurface to be perfect because every single blemish shows.

I'm happy to practice and learn on the fin, because then I'll be ready for the main wings.

Ernie,

The discoloration on the vertical fin really looks like weather beaten fabric, rather then just painted plastic that needs to be weathered.

Stunning.

I'm no expert, but those wings look a little stubby.

Ernie fantastic progress.
First couple of times i used Aviattic linen i ran into the same sort of trouble. I got in touch with Richard at Aviattic and we went through the issue apparently the gloss coat needs to be really smooth and the 'discoloration' you see under certain angles is because of trapped air. Tried a couple of the glosses i have and have settled down on using plain old future because of the leveling properties. Problem solved ever since!
DeanKB the stubby wings are the mounting points for the lower wings!

Keep up the great work Ernie

Karim, thanks, but I thought I'd make the clipped wing Racing Curtiss.

The one thing about Richard's decals. They are not regular decal paper, instead being made from some odd rubbery compound that conforms to compound curves very well, but is an absolute bear to cut cleanly with anything but the sharpest of blades.

I find it's best to pre plan all but the most basic of cuts.

Now I wait for the rest of my CDL decals to arrive.  :)
